Letang is probably grinning ear to ear with this hiring. This system fits Letang to the very last detail.

If I have to chose between winning and having fans of other teams cry about how the Pens play OR losing and having fans of other teams laugh about how the Pens play, then I'll take the sweet taste of their tears every day of the week . . . and twice on Sunday.

From what I saw of Pouliot, his defensive approach was "indifference"

Agreed. I was in the trade Letang camp, but I want to see him under Johnston first. Johnston just needs to reel Letang in a little bit so that he’s not running around so much. This hiring could make Letang worth his contract.
Yeah, I think Johnston may need a good defensive guy on the staff to help him or at least a bad cop, motivator type to light a fire under the Pouliot's of the world when he arrives.
I will cut Johnston some slack for the D in junior because it is junior. He is dealing with very young players that are prone to making tons of mistakes due to their age and lack of seasoning.

I want a rat or two. A guy like Ruutu or old Cooke. I want a guy or two who are going to piss off the other team so much that they try to kill our rats. Because every moment they're trying to do that is one less moment they're trying to kill Sid and Geno.

That's all part of adjusting, so you can attack at your opponents weakest points and protect your own. A concept foreign to the last coach here.

I am pleased with this hire, based on what I read about him. I suppose there is a little concern about the team defensively, but a puck possession skill game sounds great to me. Rutherford still needs to bring in more size and grit, but I am confident that we won't be shying away from the Hemsky's of the world anymore (skilled, euro wingers).
