Beer, well, it depends a lot on how you get approached to it I guess. Probably same thing with every other drug

In Germany, beer is part of our culture obviously. So trying your first beer at the age of 11-12 is rather normal. But if your grandpa or dad gives it to you while you're having a fun BBQ on a summer day and everyone laughs about you "not liking the taste" - you know that beer isn't for you but it's no forbidden fruit either. You'll get hammered from it soon enough.

Like always, I doubt "kids these days" isn't the answer. Where were the parents and why have they been alone with beer?

One thing I have in my to do-list, is Oktoberfest, and to go Czech and drink some Kozel there. And sing some beer songs with locals

But still, getting drunk at the age of 10-11 is not good. I've seen lot of teens who took one too much, and then passed out in the sidewalk and called the police or ambulance to take care of them.

Enjoy your childhood. You will have lot of years ahead to get drunk and do thangs that you will regret next morning.

But i regret nothing:D

Okay, wasting 200 euros in bar during 2011 Worlds and we defeated Russia, i regret that.

Never again.

Never!

I think you would have to pay multiple rounds for everyone in the entire bar if you want to waste 200 Euro for beer in a bar in Germany

Poor scandinavians :( expensive beer isn't fair

Why do you think I'm avoiding it like the plague? The hot girls, free school and healthcare?

Europeans have such different attitudes towards alcohol. I remember how surprised I was when my buddy's 14 year old cousin ordered a Gordon's Space (basically a gin version of Mike's Hard) from a beachside bar in Greece. Also, not uncommon at all for the young teens there to have an alcoholic drink with their meals.

On the flip side, they're really not fans of getting outright wasted the way many North Americans are. At least it seems that way.

From what I've heard: move to Stockholm, and be a regular passenger on the ferries to Estonia. Problem solved.

Thats what I did, bought drinks for everyone but noticed that most of my friends left the bar before that, and had to drink all with my two friends. Also spent 30 euros to taxi. And also i told bartender that if we win the game, bring a bottle of champagne to table, and some beers and oh god what else.

And that hangover. I was like Michael J. Fox. Felt like my sisters dogs were laughing at me.

We are, but only if the setting is right. Also like I said, I think growing up with something being "normal" and "available" for you because it's part of society and maybe even culture let's you develop a more healthy relationship to it.

To me the best example for it always is weed and the Netherlands. It's the only country in Europe in which you can buy legal weed and it has been for a long time and still, percentage wise they are in the lower tier of european countries having problems with addiction and over laxative abuse.

Whine in France. Beer in Germany. Weed in the Netherlands - if you grow up with it, it's different.

Or move to Finland, buy yourself a van, drive to Helsinki, jump to a ferry to Viro and load up with cheap beer, long drinks, cider and go back. And then see how your cars suspension is dying.

Guys at Customs will have something to do when you show up

Seriously though, Sweden is a bit weird in that regard. I feel like we have the NA affinity to getting blackout slammered way too often, but we also have the European tendency to start drinking early.

Finland challenges you.

In this glorious country, when teens have more than 12 beers to be consumed, they will evolve to i'll crawl here and puke to my pockets-form. And then the most glorious FinnishJet comes by and calls the ambulance and saves them. Been there, done thatx12

They will never learn.

For some reason, I imagine Finns being heavy drinkers that don't really let that affect them.

Same here.

But he was talking about kids. They are no real Finns yet. They will be when they grow up.

Oh dear oh dear...

I was driving around the town with my friend, and we noticed two kids sitting near a bus stop, both of them had beverage cans in hand and first i thought that they were drinking Coca-cola. But second time we saw them, i noticed that the were beer cans. And second thing i noticed, the kids were about 11-12 years old.

My friend stops the car and we went to talk to kids and ask them about where did they get those beers.
One of them starts vomiting and the other kid..well, he started f-bombing like there was no tomorrow.
My friend calls ambulance and both kids started crying, other was afraid that he is going to die because he drink too much and the f-bomber was afraid that he is going to be arrested or something.

They were 10 and 11 years old.

Whats wrong with the kids these days? When I was 10, i was sitting home and drinking lemonade, first time when i tasted beer i was 16.

You called an ambulance from kids drinking beer lol?
I'm pretty hopefull (delusional) that my 13 yr old son hasn't started drinking but I had snagged the odd beer or whiskey but the time I was a teenager and I regularly passed younger kids while on the way to school that were smoking marajahooty before arriving at school. That was when bell bottoms and space invaders was cool.

Why do most people have blinders on when remembering their youth?

There are two different kinds of drunk kids.

First kind: ****ed up vomiting 10 year olds. Scary.
Second kind: tipsy, stoned 13 year olds. Bit different.

Comes from a guy who started smoking at 13 and drinking at 14. :) . Or rather :( .
