So the Winnipeg Jets players are just as insecure as the hockey fans of western Canada.

Don't think Matthews, Rielly, Marner, Nylander, Andersen, Kadri have any issues with playing in Toronto. In fact, Matthews talked about how much he enjoyed playing in Toronto during the All Star break.

So glad that this game is on CBC so I can stream it from my computer on their website. Should be a blast!

Hope the Leafs aren't too tired from last night.

I don't recall last nights game. I mean.. I watched it but I had a few too many gin drinks with a game of afternoon Catan.

Lets hope I can make it through this one.

Laine has one of the most lethal shots in the league but he can be neutralized. Hainsey has the right idea that it's too late once he's shooting from the top of the circle.

Jets will be pumped. Jets nation will be tweaking.

Trouba is back.

McBackup is in net. we're on the backend of a back to back and 3rd in 4 nights.

Let's smash them and send Jets' nation over the edge.

Legend:

toi = time on ice
Letter Grades qoc = Quality of Competition measured by opponents' time on ice, Converted into Letter Grades for simplicity
p/60 = points per 60 minutes
p1/60 = primary points per 60 minutes

xGF% = Expected Goals For Percentage (i.e. shot attempt percentage adjusted for shot quality) - this stat is already adjusted for zone deployment and game score

Leafs' top line has a nice edge here, mostly thanks to Matthews badly outplaying Scheifele.....but even Hyman is pulling a decent Wheeler impression, at least at even strength.

Line 2

Kadri (27): 76gms, 14:39toi (A qoc), 1.92p/60, 1.53p1/60, 50.0cf% (-1.3rel), 47.9xgf% (-4.5rel)

Ehlers (21): 77gms, 14:06toi (B+ qoc), 2.26p/60, 1.91p1/60, 54.6cf% (+3.4rel), 52.7xgf% (-0.1rel)

Marner (20): 78gms, 14:05toi (B qoc), 2.05p/60, 1.48p1/60, 51.9cf% (+1.6rel), 53.1xgf% (+2.9rel)
Laine (19): 77gms, 13:27toi (B qoc), 2.08p/60, 1.72p1/60, 50.1cf% (-3.0rel), 47.9xgf% (-6.6rel)

As dynamite as the Leafs' 2nd line has been, the Jets' 2nd line has been better. But surprisingly, not really due to Laine, as Marner is matching him, but due to Stastny and Ehlers playing great.

Line 3

Bozak (31): 77gms, 13:27toi (C- qoc), 1.81p/60, 1.33p1/60, 52.1cf% (+2.0rel), 55.1xgf% (+5.5rel)

Armia (24): 74gms, 9:46toi (D+ qoc), 1.76p/60, 1.34p1/60, 54.5cf% (+2.5rel), 56.5xgf% (+4.3rel)

Jets are one of the few teams that can compare to the Leafs' 3rd line....but not quite I don't think.

Line 4

Plekanec (35): 73gms, 13:14toi (B qoc), 1.23p/60, 0.97p1/60, 52.1cf% (+0.7rel), 56.4xgf% (+4.3rel)
Lowry (24): 41gms, 12:03toi (C qoc), 1.84p/60, 1.35p1/60, 58.3cf% (+5.6rel), 46.4gf% (+8.4rel)

Komarov (31): 71gms, 12:42toi (B+ qoc), 0.69p/60, 0.41p1/60, 46.7cf% (-4.7rel), 47.3xgf% (-4.9rel)
Copp (23): 77gms, 11:40toi (C qoc), 1.09p/60, 0.61p1/60, 54.4cf% (+2.6rel), 54.1xgf% (+1.6rel)

Kapanen (21): 35gms, 10:16toi (D- qoc), 1.18p/60, 1.01p1/60, 52.4cf% (+1.4rel), 53.3xgf% (+3.3rel)
Tanev (26): 57gms, 10:38toi (C- qoc), 1.29p/60, 0.80p1/60, 51.6cf% (-0.8rel), 52.6xgf% (-0.2rel)

Jets also have an excellent 4th line, like the Leafs, though they haven't been regulars up top of the lineup like Pleks and Leo were most of the year.

Pair 1

Rielly (23): 72gms, 18:16toi (A qoc), 1.10p/60, 0.86p1/60, 51.5cf% (+2.0rel), 50.8xgf% (+0.2rel)
Trouba (23): 52gms, 17:52toi (A- qoc), 0.98p/60, 0.79p1/60, 51.2cf% (-0.1rel), 54.0xgf% (+4.2rel)

Hainsey (36): 76gms, ES 17:47toi (A+ qoc), 0.74p/60, 0.41p/60, 48.6cf% (-2.6rel), 49.2xgf% (-2.5rel)
Morrissey (22): 77gms, 17:42toi (A- qoc), 0.85p/60, 0.49p1/60, 51.8cf% (-0.8rel), 53.8xgf% (+1.7rel)

Trouba is back.....but the Leafs' top pair is still better.

Pair 2

Gardiner (27): 78gms, 20:03toi (B+ qoc), 1.23p/60, 0.80p1/60, 50.2cf% (-0.7rel), 51.0xgf% (-0.0rel)
Byfuglien (32): 65gms, 20:03toi (B+ qoc), 0.90p/60, 0.47p1/60, 52.8cf% (+1.6rel), 54.6xgf% (+4.0rel)

Zaitsev (26): 56gms, 19:10toi (B qoc), 0.69p/60, 0.58p1/60, 47.8cf% (-4.2rel), 49.5xgf% (-2.2rel)
Morrow (25): 51gms, 15:23toi (C+ qoc), 0.63p/60, 0.39p1/60, 49.7cf% (-3.0rel), 50.7xgf% (-2.5rel)

The more I think about it, Jake and Buffy are actual great comparables. Uber talented brainfarting pros. Jake doesn't have Buffy's muscle, though. but nor does he have his belly. I like Buffy a bit more than Jake, but Morrow is non-nhl trash so Leafs win this matchup as well.

Pair 3

Dermott (21): 35gms, 15:50toi (D+ qoc), 1.21p/60, 0.55p1/60, 56.5cf% (+7.0rel), 57.0xgf% (+8.7rel)
Myers (27): 77gms, 16:49toi (C+ qoc), 0.71p/60, 0.42p1/60, 51.6cf% (-1.0rel), 47.7xgf% (-7.6rel)

Polak (31): 50gms, 15:07toi (D+ qoc), 0.81p/60, 0.48p1/60, 49.6cf% (-0.2rel), 49.9xgf% (-0.7rel)
Chiarot (26): 52gms, 13:41toi (D+ qoc), 1.10p/60, 0.68p1/60, 51.6cf% (-3.5rel), 49.4xgf% (-7.1rel)

Myers has done some great work on the PP this year, but at ES has been terrible. And Chiarot is garbagio. Leafs' pair takes this matchup as well.

Starter

McElhinney (34): 16gms, 93.5sv%, +2.4dsv% / ES 94.5sv%, +2.2dsv% / PK 88.4sv%, +3.5dsv%
Hellebuyck (24): 63gms, 92.3sv%, +0.8dsv% / ES 92.7sv%, +0.0dsv% / PK 90.4sv%, +3.8dsv%

Comrie (22): 3gms, 87.2sv%, -3.7dsv% / ES 87.1sv%, -4.6dsv% / PK 85.7sv%, +3.3dsv%

Hellebuyck has been better than Andy.....but we have McStarter in net.

PP

TOR: 23.8% (3rd)
WPG: 23.3% (4th)

PP1

Marner (20): 78gms, 2:12toi, 8.81p/60, 6.34p1/60
Wheeler (31): 77gms, 3:09toi, 9.21p/60, 7.96p1/60

Kadri (27): 76gms, 2:05toi, 6.89p/60, 5.74p1/60

VanRyk (28): 77gms, 2:17toi, 6.54p/60, 5.51p1/60
Scheifele (24): 56gms, 3:07toi, 5.53p/60, 3.46p1/60

Bozak (31): 77gms, 2:10toi, 3.97p/60, 2.89p1/60
Stastny (32): 77gms, 2:40toi, 2.35p/60, 1.76p1/60

Rielly (23): 72gms, 2:11toi, 8.57p/60, 3.12p1/60
Byfuglien (32): 65gms, 3:06toi, 5.69p/60, 1.80p1/60

Two of the most lethal PP units in the league.....except the Jets' top unit gets a full minute more PP time per game.

PP2

Matthews (20): 58gms, 2:06toi, 3.93p/60, 1.97p1/60
Perreault (29): 65gms, 2:15toi, 5.79p/60, 3.31p1/60

Little (30): 77gms, 2:11toi, 4.29p/60, 1.43p1/60

Brown (23): 78gms,1:13toi, 1.27p/60, 1.27p1/60
Connor (21): 71gms, 2:42toi, 3.13p/60, 2.50p1/60

Gardiner (27): 78gms, 2:02toi, 4.53p/60, 2.65p1/60
Myers (27): 77gms, 2:03toi, 6.05p/60, 4.54p1/60

Not as good from the 2nd unit - though the jets' 2nd unit is not as cold as the leafs'. The more annoying thing here is that even though the jets' top unit plays way more than the leafs' top unit, their 2nd unit plays just as much as our 2nd unit too.....because we don't get any fricken PPs.

Two good PK units that employ very difference systems - the Jets split the time through 2 even 3 units, while the Leafs really lean on their top guys a ton.

We've been playing good hockey lately. On average, we've gotten 56% of scoring chances at 5v5 over the past 13 games. Not bad

Panthers are all but out of the playoff race, Reimer was absolutely slaughtered and pulled after two periods. Can't say I'm sad to see that happen.

In other news, I'm glad the Leafs drafted Matthews instead of Laine. Both are good players, but one eclipses the other in virtually every single aspect, to me, it's not even close.

Laine has one of the most lethal shots in the league but he can be neutralized. Hainsey has the right idea that it's too late once he's shooting from the top of the circle.

Which is hilarious because when he was a Jet his idea of defence was skate backwards to the top of the crease giving the puck carrier a good 20 feet of room. The guy has improved his game a lot.

Best of luck tonight guys. should be a great game! Sucks that I won't be able to watch one of my favorite players in the league - Matthews - so let's have a good one instead.

Please no accountants in goal.

Oh god, you don't know how much i dread this game. Imagine if the Jets win or Laine scores more than Matthews (or Laine gets hat-trick), oh my. You just know the main boards will be plagued for months with the Jets / Finnish / Laine fanboys.

I'm aware of the season he's having. But, he's still Mcbackup.
It's a good name.

Winnipegs a big team, so it'll be interesting to see how we counter that. It would be more indicative of a playoff match up if we weren't on the 2nd night of a back to back, but at least we mostly have young legs out there.
