Have to agree Jetsfan87 that the biggest issue next year and maybe following years is 2C. Jets spent so much money on wingers but there is only one offensive C. It is almost like you buy all kinds of fancy toys but you don’t have any money left for batteries.

Seemed unlikely Laine would play most of his rookie season on the top line, as it did for Connor as well. To me it makes sense that you’d want your high skill/defensively deficient top rookie playing alongside two of your team’s all-around players. Just following that logic with Ves.

I understand the amount of contracts to pay out this year, but Enstrom/Myers/Mason would get you nearly $15m freed up, on top of the salary cap’s estimated increase of $3m-$7m. I really don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest a deal could be made with Stastny, especially if we go deep this year.

Getting rid of Petan is to sweeten the pot when looking for a 1st round pick. If he’s not making the roster, he’s simply an aging asset at this point. Better to cash out on him while there’s still a premium for his potential elsewhere.
Yep, except when Lanie, Connor, and Ehlers joined the team there was no Ehlers Connor or Lanie. We didn't have great young players. I imagine they take their time with Ves so that he is cheap while everyone else is expensive unless he really blows the doors down. I know he is playing fantastic in the Liga but until he really shows something in the AHL or in TC I don't see the Jets hurrying. Isn't Niku a Ld? For D I'd rather put Niku with Buff and Chariot and Poolman as your bottom line. Morrow as your 7th d and Kuli gone. Doubt Ves beats Armia for pp time when Mo likes Armia there over Rosie because of his ability to maintain control of the puck.

I wonder if they are even really thinking about resigning stastny or hoping Roslovic is their 2c next year as Perrault is a lot cheaper than Stastny.

Couple different reasons why I had Niku slotted there— he’s currently playing RH-side for the Moose, although from my understanding he doesn’t have any issue going either way. Secondly, I purposely avoided putting him and Buff together since they’re both offensive defensemen.

I think that Maurice would much sooner play Ves on the PP than Armia to avoid over playing him each game with his ES and PK shifts. On top of this, Vesalainen is well-known as a PP specialist and slots in as the mirror Laine. I agree, Roslovic could be a better option too.

Just realizing now I missed that my lineup excluded Perreault. If Myers, Enstrom, Mason, and Perreault all came off the books we’d be sitting quite favourably from a cap perspective. That being said, it could be too significant of a shake up to the team. Personally I’d rather keep Stastny/Little as the 2A/2B option than Perreault who hasn’t played centre in ages. Roslovic will get there, but I don’t think he’s close enough to bank on him pulling it off out of TC next season.

I think it’s wishful thinking to think Roslovic can step into center next year and bring more then what Little can. But, IF he can, we’ll be a strong contender next year again.

Perrault is not going to play center. Little's line is clearly not 2B right now as that line is probably getting less playing time than Lowry's.
If you kept Perrault and Stastny you are not playing Ves. He is too good and will be too expensive to use him to replace a Tanev or Copp. Bottom line guys are always crucial for their cheapness and as bottom liners go I think we got some good ones. If you are not using him in the top 3 lines I'd rather keep his ECL another year. You are not moving Connor to the 4th as that is too expensive. If you are not moving Stas and Perrault I don't see room for Ves as if there is only one slot you are putting Rosie there.

If you move Stas and use Little as your #2 you need to break up Wheeler and Chef and put Wheeler with Little. Essentially Stas's line would change centers with Chef and then 2nd line Connor Little Wheeler.

Greeting Jets fans, quite a few Avs fans have been throwing out the idea of signing Stastny this offseason as he'd make a lot of sense for us, do you see him re-signing with you guys? Or is he more of a luxury at this point?

He's a rental for us. Unless he's willing to take something along the lines of 2 year 5 per (which he won't) he'll be gone.

Gotta think he would go back to St Louis over Colorado though

Can we sign and trade him back to the Blues for Foley plus a second round draft pick?
Such a pity that we can't resign him. I'd rather Stastny than Little and Perrault.

So Chevy was prepared to pay Brassard $5mil next year. So offering that to Stastny cannot be dismissed. I wonder how he was thinking of making that work though money-wise.

the issue is beyond next year. Stastny won't be signing a 1 year deal. Brassard was only signed for 1 year and the Jets could have let him walk when the Laine and Wheeler extension kicks in

How I see the roster next season as of right now:

Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Laine-Roslovic-Ehlers
Perreault-Little-Armia
Lowry-Copp-Tanev

Morrissey-Trouba
Morrow-Byfuglien
Kulikov-Myers
Niku-Poolman
Chiarot

Hellebuyck
Mason

Armia I could see getting traded for overpayment, but we should try our best to keep him.

I feel that Niku deserves to make the roster as he's proven himself in the AHL, but it would also be valuable to keep Morrow as he could be had for cheap and we could sign him long-term in the likes of three years at $1M AAV, in case money becomes a problem with the Jets. But the problem now is we're stacked on the LD, unless some of the LD are willing to play on the right side. Myers I think should be traded as he has good value and could land what Andrew Ladd brought us. I mean if we need to replace Myers we could have Poolman as a temporary replacement. Which also leaves us with Kulikov that might start the year with a long-term injury after going through surgery and will have two years left on his contract. The other issue is Trouba if he doesn't want to sign in Winnipeg, I think he could land us lots if we trade him. I'm personally in favour of trading Trouba because he doesn't want to play in Winnipeg and there are teams who could certainly use him.

We also might want to get an NHL quality back-up that's also an AHL starter, as it looks as Mason could be a starter on a bad team and a team could be interested in adding him.

^^ why wouldn't Lowry play centre and use Morrow as your 7th D and start Niku in top 4? Kuli is an albatross with injuries. It's interesting he has gone from a bad signing to great to bad. Also interesting you don't have any rookie forwards or Petan as your extra forwards.

If Stastny is willing to sign a 1 year $5 M deal he will be a Jet next season and Chevy will be doing cartwheels. Problem is he likely looks for something north of $6M longer term.

That's a stanley cup roster. But I don't know if the management can afford to keep them all.

I know this is a longshot because most RHD don't play the left side, but can Trouba be a LD long term if a team (say the Islanders were to acquire him?

His official reason for holding out was he didn't want to be a LD, so doubtful
