If the Rangers bring Fast over and play him that's even more speed. Should definitely think about tweaking the system a bit

Who are you kidding? Torts will have him going full speed into the oppositions boards. Then he will get benched because he blows a coverage..

I think Sather is only doing it so Krieder can play. It takes the attention off of him..

I'm never the guy to say this... but I believe SOMETHING is going to happen... maybe a call up, maybe a trade -who know's?

This doesn't make sense bc the Rangers have zero center depth. Miller CAN play center. Powe CAN play center.... but has Tortorella used either in that role lately? Nope... Halpern wasn't a difference maker by any stretch, but PK, face-offs... he was good at that, and I was under the impression that's why he was brought here... Something doesn't jive...

it does seem that way. I mean Fast is already part of the 49 contracts signed so he could have just came in and played in CT or Kreider/Miller have options to go down.

it has to be to clear a contract. They know Halpern has value and someone will take him..........im going to be pretty surprised if hes not gone to another team at noon today

I don't think the Rangers would mind that actually. He doesn't play 5 on 5, and hasn't been effective there for a long time. He's also soft, and doesn't add any push back minutes. Remember how last years team just grinded the opposition for minutes on end... not happening with Jeff Halpern. He doesn't do all the things a fourth liner needs to do. His value is negated further by the fact that Stepan (righty shot) can be counted to win draws. I'm happy to see this move.

Lundqvist is the only star player that's stayed here. Jagr, Nylander, Straka, Gomez, Drury, Roszival, Redden all high paid guys that left. Richards, Gaborik next and probably Nash in 2-4 yrs. This team is pretty much reminiscent to the Hasek Sabres era where the team around him was pretty mediocre, but Hasek kept the team relevant with a few years as outliers. Hasek didn't win with Buffalo.

Lundqvist will always be #1 here, only one to beat him was Jagr in his rookie year in terms of importance to team.

No thanks. I will continue to support this team, even if they miraculously give up the #1 pick to Columbus or say Lundqvist in a trade.

I think Lundqvist is the best goalie for NY in the last 50 years. That said, he is nowhere near the player Hasek was.

Not quite, yeah. Hasek singlehandedly made Buffalo a good team.

Henrik's career stats aren't too far away, but Hasek put up his numbers at a time where no one in the league was in the same stratosphere. 7 Vezina trophies.

For Halper, I honestly don't know if someone will claim him. Does it mess with their plans if he clears? Will they keep him in the NHL if he clears, send him to the AHL, or try to attack him to a trade somewhere?

He has been one of our better pk guys.

And you still want the only guy that can score 40+ goals traded, on this non scoring team .........

Lol

It is the coach, it is the system!!!!!

Put fu......... Torts on waivers

Torts System is the MAIN PROBLEM with this team......no doubt

Gaborik though is another big one......this guy needs to be gone as well. He's no longer a "40 goal scorer" imo.

Halpern reminds me of a Bizzarro-world Erik Christensen. He's a specialist who is just okay at the things he's supposed to specialize in. Christensen was supposed to be an offensive specialist. Halpern a defensive one. I don't think Tortorella is ever happy having anyone who is a specialist, but definitely not ones who are just mediocre.

The Rangers are on the ice at 11 this morning. Waivers at noon. Sending Halpern down gets him off the cap. Hopefully Halpern is claimed and he can continue his career in the NHL. Rangers free up a contract.

If their intention is to free up a contract, they'll probably just keep him on the roster if he doesn't get claimed and find another way to shed a contract. If it's just about the roster spot, then I hope he gets claimed. He doesn't deserve to get sent down.

Gaborik's clipped the 40G mark two out of the last three season's under Torts.

So no, Torts system is not the problem.

And no, Gaborik is still a 40G scorer.

You guys come to conclusions too quickly. And you're also too quick to point your all-mighty fingers at someone.

**** happens. Players have off-years. A lot of quality players are having crappy years.

If you've been a Ranger fan that long, then you should realize how impossibly difficult it is to obtain a 40+ goal scorer.

Having a 40+ goal scorer isn't all it's cracked up to be. None of the last 4 stanley cup winners had one. The three winners before that did, but scoring was a lot higher coming out of the lockout.

IMO, balanced scoring is more important than having one guy who can score a lot. That's not to say I don't want someone who can score 40, but as a 40 goal scorer, Gaborik leaves a lot to be desired. I'd rather have 30 goals from someone who is more consistent and adds in other ways when he isn't scoring. Of course, finding that guy is just as hard.

With the waiving of Halpern, something must be up. Maybe it's just making room on the roster for Fasth, I don't know. Sather always has something up his sleeve.

What would happen if a team put in a claim for Halpern, and he got injured at practice today?

I suppose the claim would be void?

Teams shouldn't be allowed to have players skate while they're currently on the wire.

I'll take a team full of Callahan's over Gaborik's without hesitation. Look at the scoring balance a team like Boston has. It would be foolish for anyone to disagree that a balanced team is tougher to contain than a top-heavy team.

Still though, the way our team is constructed, I'd like to see what they're capable of doing if they click on all cylinders. 2 forwards who have that 40G potential in a 7game series can be overwhelming.

He always has that ace in his back-pocket. Guys like Halpern don't get waived out of the blue unless there are other gears in motion, which is what we're all kind of expecting. I honestly think there's a presser coming pretty soon from MSG. Looking forward to noon, that's for sure.

Miller ran into Hank and left practice. Pyatt changed into a grey jersey to replace him so it doesn't look like he is coming back.

Now if Halpern gets claimed, they are down 2 forwards.

Down two forwards, up two Bickel and Gilroy
