If the Leafs do plan on buying out Cowen, they have to walk the "injury" line carefully as you can't buy out an injured player.
Can we still blame Cowen?
Man, I'm sorry to say this but, this might be the most ill-informed post I've read in a while, and that's saying a lot.
I mean if any player got more than fair treatment it's Jared. Seems like you expected the team and fanbase to ignore his play entirely and just give him endless chance after chance.
This isn't kindergarten. It's pro sports.
I believe this is wrong. He actually stated how much he disliked playing in the minors and forced the team's hand through his agent to get him to play minutes with the big club because he felt he was ready after his short time down there for the Calder Cup run.
Management didn't force anything. He got injured by himself, he derailed his own career.
Jared Cowen screwed Jared Cowen.
He actually requested a trade at the end of last season/ in the summer. The team jsut couldn't move him, the lineup was supposed to be
Meth- Karl
Wier-Ceci
Boro- Wideman
To start the year, obviously this didn't happen, but it's also why it makes sense that Wier is the one coming out now that Phaneuf is here.

This fanbase supports the worst D on the team and ignores all his weaknesses, why is that?
Not a chance the Leafs keep him. He was acquired for the cap credit that his buyout will provide - that's it. Every team has pro scouts, and everyone can see that this guy simply can't play in the NHL right now. Is there a team willing to sign him this summer at minimum salary? Hard to say - his status as a former top ten pick will be catnip to some GMs, perhaps making them believe hat the guy will magically get better with their club.
Sure, it makes as much sense now as it did when he was a Senator.
