Uh why can't it be bought out?

This is why. Lucic's Buyout:

Vs Neal's Buyout:

At least, with Neal's contract, you'd get savings instantly. However, you will get no savings in the first 3 years. So Essentially, Flames got the worse of the 2 contracts based on instant savings, and since you got contract extensions on Tkachuk and Gaudreau, and trying to keep the rest of the roster (or at least equivalent talent) is gonna get tougher. And like we discussed earlier, the NMC screws the Flames in the Expansion too as there is no 100% guarantee he will 'waive' his NMC to be expansion exposed. Just on those factors alone, Neal is the better of the 2 contracts.

Who is repeatedly getting swept in the first round?

And it what universe is being a bottom 5 team better than being a play-off team?

Barely winning a single game to me is no different then being swept but keep splitting hairs...

Historically the shames have only made the playoffs twice more then the Oilers with far less success. That essentially says everything we need to know if you'd rather focus on the past rather then the present.

Doesn't Edmonton only have like 200k in cap space? Can Calgary buy out Lucic just to screw with the Oilers? It'd probably be worth it to do that than actually put him on the ice and waste a roster spot.

At least I'll see 5 playoff games. You'd figure after a 10 year rebuild you guys would be a bit further along.

2011–12Did not qualify
2012–13Did not qualify
2013–14Did not qualify

It would make no difference for the Oilers since Lucic's portion of the contract is already on the books and is expected to be until completion. Not to mention, 24+ million in cap opens up next year

lol they win 4 games and they think they're in a position to throw shade at the results of the team that finished first in the west last year. Classic Edmonton.

Good luck with that Lucic contract.

Funny since we won more playoff series in that stretch. Don't know why you need to make yourself look dumb by posting this lol.

I'm not splitting hairs I am asking a legit question and if that repeatedly getting swept in the first round BS was meant for the Flames it makes zero sense anyways.

And it still ignores the main point that getting swept in the first round is always better than being a bottom 5 team.

Lucic is a West coast boy. As soon as Seattle enters the NHL he would be the first guy to jump at the opportunity to waive his NMC to play there. The problem is would Seattle want him? He better start playing like a useful part of the team if he wants that to come true. You have to wonder if there was some sort of silent agreement between him and the flames. There is no way they would want him around another 4 seasons.

There has to be more to the trade that we will never find out about.

1) No you didn't.
2) Keep telling yourself missing the playoffs 12 out of 13 years is totally cool and better than making it regularly and not winning the cup. Playing meaningful games in March is such a drag man...

Who cares?

It is one of, if not the, worst runs in professional sports but because you won more series than another team you think that is something to brag about?

7* which is more than Calgary over the same time period. Cool we both suck. Let's get back to talking about the Real Deal. I bet he outproduces 2 players in Calgary's top 6 this year.

There is. Lucic wanted to play top 6 minutes and he was no good. He was pushed down the lineup and pouted. Then he got traded.

He got traded for James Neal who is leading the league in goals scored. Cha-ching.

No chance Seattle takes him unless there is add-ons from the Flames and there is no reason for the Flames to add on or any indication that ownership would make a move like that.

I am not sure why there has to be more to this deal than what we already know. Neal was terrible in Calgary and not good enough to help out. He has a horrible deal that no other team in the NHL wanted. After shopping him around the only deal out there was for another terrible player with a terrible deal who the Flames thought could play on the 4th line. Its a pretty straight forward deal to understand.
