Which you guys still go over the top with. One winger on the 4th line does not sink the team. There's obvious problems with the team and the attention the Reaves problem gets is way disproportionate compared to everything else.

He’s been on the ice for almost 1/4 of our total goals against and he plays 6 minutes a night against fourth liners and doesn’t PK.

We’ve allowed 27 ES goals and he’s been on the ice for 8 of them. Those 8 goals are the difference between bottom 10 and top 3 at ES right now even with our goalie problems.

Washed up Simmonds had 3 GA in 18 games last year, it’s not just a washed up enforcer issue, Reaves is uniquely bad in a way we haven’t seen since the Burke days.

If he's benched again and the team succeeds like they just did, going to get harder to ignore him occupying a roster spot for 1+ mil

Other than maybe Sammy, Reaves probably has more pressure than anyone else on the roster to remind folks he's worth staying

On one hand, we need a Reaves type player. Reaves just hasn’t been great. His inability to line up hits due to his speed is really alarming. He barely fights as well. That is his only two qualities that are down the drain. Teams are also still taking runs and cheap shots at the Leafs with him in the lineup.

Lol... no he isn't great but he's far from the worst... holy shit... when did you start watching the Leafs lol
He has to be in the discussion to be fair.

Dude playing under 10 a night and eating a minus almost every game on a good team is not that easy to do.

He's averaging a TOI of 7:38 and has been on the ice for 30% of the Leafs even strength goals against. That's like ineptitude at it's prime level.

Definitely up there if not the worst all-time Maple Leaf

Care to elaborate what we could expect to see that would change what’s already happened? He plays under 8min a game and has been on for a hugely disproportionate number of goals against and not a solitary goal for.
What exactly would his redeeming qualities be??

At least 161 games straight without a goal is pretty good damn impressive.

NHL CBA FAQ - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

What is a 35-plus contract?

A contract is designated a 35+ contract if the players age on the first year of the contract is 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to the year of the effective contract).

35+ contracts that are two years in length or longer and:
1. Have a signing bonus in the 2nd or later year, OR
2. Are front-loaded
Will not benefit from a reduced cap hit regardless of the players location of play, termination, retired status, or a buyout. This rule was introduced by the NHL to prevent teams from backloading contracts past when the player was expected to retire. An exception to this rule is that a team will receive a $100,000 cap hit reduction if the player is on the 2nd or later year of the contract and assigned to the minors

Yes, although Reeves is 36 due to the MoU Reeves can be waived, boughtout or LTIR with cap savings.

He's not playing well but worst Leaf ever is over the top.

If it continues then yeah... with 3 years left you have to consider figuring something out. Waivers and then to the Marlies but they'd still be eating half the salary or so.

Preferably 1 year even 2 would of been doable. 3 isn't good.

It will be something close to 200k.

'"Bigger picture, the obvious way out for the Leafs is to bury Reaves’ contract in the minors. All but $200K can be excised from the cap. (He may get claimed on waivers.) But again, that feels highly unlikely for a player the GM seems to value."

Maybe you forget. I remember him well. Fantastic Player! Got him and McLlwain from the Islanders. Went to the conference final with him as well.

I had his poster on the wall.

As far as enforcers go I liked him better than Domi and Orr. Belak might be the only muscle that I liked more. I'm not old enough to be a Tiger Williams fan.

Reaves is a bit of a joke compared to those guys.

Can really tell the age of some of the people here if they think this guy was the worst Leaf ever.
He's not very good but he's not even close to some of the guys that played in the 80's.

Fair to say he may be the worst player in the cap era but that may even be a stretch.

End the thread. Reaves hasn't merited the contract given but he's not the worst player the club's had, by a large margin, if we consider his entire body of work.

We -- as is often the case -- acquired him too late into his career.

Meanwhile, Arber Xhekaj was in our backyard, went undrafted, is tough, plays defence, etc, etc...

All this to say, with our means and our proximity to the largest talent pool in the world, there is no reason why we shouldn't be drafting our own Ryan Reaves, and then some.

He's not even the worst player in cap era...

Brett Lebda and his -3 in an 8-3 win.
Can't forget Mike Komisarek. He was horrific here.
Olli Jokinen was horrible, he was acquired at the end of his career.
Petri Kontiola, came in people expected him to replace Bozak, guy couldn't skate.
