Is Bergevin the worst GM in the NHL?

Just one season after trading Weber for Subban, he traded his top defensive prospect for a one dimensional winger. Then traded a young mobile defender for a 3rd.

Now the Habs have major holes at center and defence. You cannot contend without good centers or a deep defence

The Drouin trade gives him a little leeway, but if he ends up trading Galchenyuk, then it's one step forward, two steps back.

Is Jim Benning still employed?

Benning has been pretty good.

Burrows for Dhalen
Hansen for Goldobin
Bieksa for a 2nd
Lack for a 3rd
2nd for Baertschi
Shinkaruk for Granlund
McCann for Gudbranson

Only thing I will give Benning $hit over is Eriksson contract.. Ugh..

Other stuff has been pretty good.

If you take into account the pieces he started off with, the two compliance buyouts, the depth of the team he inherited, the TOTAL free reign he had (no president to report to, direct line to the hands-off owner, Geoff Molson), the unlimited budget so he could bury contracts in the AHL willy nilly, the low expectations of the fanbase who are happy with whatever the Habs give them both in results and entertainment-value (both low), the complete trust and support of the local media for the first ~5 years, and now his upcoming FIVE year extension and all that job security...

Yes, he's by far the worst GM in the league. Just garbage hockey and garbage hockey moves.

Worst drafting/development in the league since he started, same holes as the team he inherited except now it's older and has less depth, no identity...

Ugh don't get me started. It's definitely between Sakic, Benning, and BargainBin Bergevin.

Subban for Weber was actually a terrific trade.

Le dancing man would never find success in Montreal. Would've been better if Habs got a younger player in return but you take what you can in a situation like that.
He won the Norris and was leading the team in points for the playoffs.

For Nashville.

Of course he is

Benning has nothing to work with and Sakic is simply asking for the moon, keeping his chips.

Bergevin traded his chips for the media and the plebs support and still no no1 center in sight

As long as he has Price, he will appear to be a passable GM to the hockey world.
