It's technically the right opinion though. The only thing the current jets share with the old jets is the team name and the fact they play in Winnipeg. The current jets can be traced back through the start of their franchise, which was in 1999-2000. The history of the old Jets belongs to the Arizona franchise (because they actually played the games), not the city.
Both are correct.
Jets 1.0 tracks to PHX and Atl tracks to Jets 2.0
But Winnipeg has professional hockey histories that involve both.
Celebrate it all.
Winnipeg fans care a million times more about Jets 1.0 history than Coyotes fans would. Jets 1.0 alumni care a million times more about Winnipeg unless they also played in PHX and so on.
If teams can change owners, coaches, players and staff then cities can change teams. We'd gladly be the care takers of any Atlanta hockey history but at the same time if there was an appropriate place to honor it in their city then they can do that to.
Pheonix can honor Winnipeg Jets history or just worry about the own 19+ year history.
What is stronger more sensible connection?
A city honoring its past or people worried about the details of a financial transaction?
Acknowledge it all and honor it all.
Who cares?
Winnipeg fans will always hold onto their own memories.
Snippy comments on the internet won't change that.
