Don't say anything at all
Last year, UNC football played a non-conference game against Wake Forest and will do so again in 2021. They currently do not meet annually in conference play.

This gives me an idea. A couple ideas really.

In football, UNC and Wake should schedule non-conference games every year they are not scheduled to meet in-conference. Duke and NC State too. Until the ACC expands in such a way that a geographical division split is possible.

In basketball, those two series are the only Tobacco Road rivalries that aren't guaranteed to be played twice a year home-and-home in-conference. In years where they meet only once in conference play, they should likewise meet in a non-conference game at the venue that isn't hosting the conference matchup.

Football greed killed “tobacco road and the ACC in general. The top of the heap have created more separation.

ACC should go to more conference games but wont

I'm old enough to remember when the ACC was 9 teams and everyone played everyone. Most of you probably do as well. You'll also remember Florida State won damn near every conference game in Football for almost 10 years, though I was at Carter-Finley to see Torry Holt torch them in 1998. At the time I didn't quite understand just how big an upset that was. I think 3 years later an unranked UNC team walloped them by some lopsided score and later that year State beat them in Tallahassee for the 'Noles first conference home loss. I mean damn, Florida State single-handily held ACC Football together throughout the 90's.

Just my opinion, but conference expansion and realignment killed a lot of what made the NCAA fun to watch. Texas A&M going to get their asses whipped by Alabama, Auburn, and LSU every year for more money doesn't really excite me. A&M had some great battles with Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma among others. You knew those games meant a lot to those involved.

The NCAA trying to fabricate a Texas A&M/LSU rivalry or the like just isn't interesting. You can do that w/ pro sports, college rivalries are more regional in general w/ a few exceptions.

I feel the same way w/ ACC expansion. Syracuse, Pitt, and Louisville made up what was a fun-to-watch Big East Basketball conference and UConn, Villanova, West Virginia, and Georgetown had solid teams as well. Those Big East Tournaments were always must see TV. But unfortunately, Georgetown doesn't have Football, UConn and Villanovas programs don't recruit, and Pitt/Cuse/Louisville/Cincy are so-so. West Virginia was really the only 'contender' for that conference in Football, and Football is the cash cow in the NCAA. I guess really Miami/BC/ and VT leaving for the ACC was the writing on the wall.

Now it's all kind of all over the place. It's crazy to me that Boston College and Miami (1,500 miles apart) are in the same conference. Same with West Virginia and Texas Tech (about the same across two time zones). And Notre Dame is within a few hours to schools like Michigan/MSU/Purdue etc. and they're in the ACC. I get the Pac-12 because there's less population among the Mountain West and West Coast and IIRC the Big 12 said no to Utah.

Greed killed the NCAA and will continue to do so among other things. Too bad but money talks.

You mean 8 teams, which was the true configuration. ;)

Maryland with Lefty Driesell and Len Elmore and Len Bias.
Virginia with Ralph Sampson.
GT with Bobby Cremins and Mark Price and John Salley.
Clemson with Horace and Harvey Grant.
Wake with Tim Duncan and Muggsy Bogues.
Duke at the dawn of the Coach K era.
State with David Robinson and then Coach V and the Cardiac Pack.
UNC with Dean Smith and Jordan and Worthy and so many others.

On the first day of the ACC Tournament, all classes would stop, and the AV carts were rolled in.

The ACC was incredible back then. Just incredible. Great memories.

BYU, it was after Utah went Pac 12.

But yeah, realignment killed a lot of what made college sports special. The Big East's arrogance in mandating that basketball lead the way for the conference eventually killed it. Penn State and West Virginia back in the early 80s wanted in and to make it a player in football as well. Penn State formally applied and was rejected. It's rumored that Paterno wanted to get South Carolina, FSU, and Miami in the fold as well, all 3 being independents at the time.

Rodney Rodgers. Tim Duncan was fantastic, but even he couldn't time travel to play in the 8 team ACC.

Killed a lot of the area's viewing pleasure as well. Never thought I would miss Raycom as I do. I watch most of the games on the ACCN on mute.

Same. Raycom was awesome, I know people were pissed about 12 pm kickoffs in Football but it didn't bother me at all. ACCN is okay but there's nothing special about it.

I graduated High School in 2006 but yeah we'd watch the early afternoon games as well. The talent wasn't quite as good as the 80's/90's but it was still entertaining basketball. Duke and Maryland had a great rivalry going in the early 00's and often met in the Tournament.

BYU, it was after Utah went Pac 12.

IIRC in that 30 for 30 the Big East rejected Penn State because they were not in a market. I'm guessing there were other factors as well (they were not a basketball school) but the conference would have taken PSU in if they were closer to Pittsburgh or Philly or something. Seems petty but that was the Big East for you. They were not thrilled about adding WVU for the record, they kind of had to though to survive.

Oh yeah. To those I'll add Yvon Joseph, Othell Wilson, Jeff Lamp, Delaney Rudd, etc etc...

An American Farmville-residue Facebook friend posted a post about how "C-word is hard pill to swallow" and then on the hardness of life she is currently facing. Only in the last row when she spelled it out I realized she was talking about cancer. Until that I though she had been called names.

Prayers for your friend @Lempo
Well this is awkward, but she's a Facebook friend, from the heyday of Farmville. A completely unknown person I used to request hay bales and crap with from each other ten or so years ago, and never got around to purge because I kind of got used to having those strange people on my wall for the occasional drama social porn and anyway purging people is what Stalin would do.

Obviously we should hope she (or maybe her family member, it was a bit vague) pulls through it.
