How do we get rid of Bobrovsky?

Seems like it would be ridiculously expensive to convince a team to trade for him even if Florida is retaining and it's also doubtful Bobrovsky would waive to go to a place like Seattle, where he'd lose millions of dollars due to taxes.

Seems like the Panthers just need to do everything they can to they can to see if they can work with him mentally, physically and positionally to try to regain his form and that the very least work his way to being a competent backup so he's not hurting the team while in net. Appears they came into the season with largely a 50/50 split in net, but given the early results it seems Dreidger should increasingly get a larger share of the load if the play of both netminders continues down the current path. A buyout or trade isn't realistic anytime soon, so just need to hope for the best that Bobrovsky's play can get back up to a competent level and/or he winds up on LTIR down the road.
Agreed. Unless they take a terrible contract in exchange, I think he’s stuck here for 3 of the remaining 5 years, at least

Why on Earth would any team trade for him? Honest question, what's the angle? The guy's grossly overpaid and he f***ing sucks.

Single-handedly going to drown this franchise.

Not sure who vets GMs in the NHL, but how does a guy make this kinda signing?

Signing any goalie, let alone a 30+ year old goalie to a 10m dollar contract is an obvious blunder imo. Rationally the best u can expect is 3-4 good years and then it's bad, but honestly saw this specific contract from a mile away.

It was a desperate GM who probably thought 3-4 good years would've been good enough.

But, on the positive side, on balance, Bobrovsky hasn't hurt the team at all so far this season. If he builds up to that .910-0.915 avg range, we can count it as a good Bob year after one bad one.

The fact that the team has had such a good start could lead to him feeling less pressure allowing him to start performing even better too. There's hope.

Bob’s at 0.899 for the season (142/158). Note that if he hadn’t let two of the many garbage goals in, he could be 144/158 = 0.911 and not many people would be complaining all that much.

Was just listening to AM radio and an analytics guy was saying the league average for sv% is .907 right now, last year it would have been .911.

Now I'm sure that .907 will increase a bit as teams fine tune their systems, goalies get into their muscle memory and it becomes second nature.

Outside the defensive collapse against NSH in the 6-5 loss, Bob's numbers have improved dramatically.
Not saying he will stay in Vez mode but it's encouraging at least.

Now in saying that, TB x3 will put the whole team on the scale so if we can just play 3 trap games (focus heavily on winning/clogging NZ) and try for 3 (a win and OTL/SOL), essentially a split, it will be a win for us.

Yup, take out the Nashville game where the team defense was horrible, and Bob's numbers are fine. There's still another level I think he will get to eventually, but he's definitely trending in the right direction.

What are our options to get rid of Sergei Bobrovsky this offseason? Is a buyout feasible? Can we somehow manage a mutual contract termination with him? Is he even NHL caliber anymore?

Serious question. A goaltender making $10 million per year who doesn't even look like he belongs in the NHL is a disaster for this franchise. Bill Zito is going to have to pull out the same magic wand he used to get rid of Matheson somehow to fix Dale Tallon's mess.

So, what can we do about this?

Zero percent on that mutual agreement hope. Nobody is mutually terminating a contract at that cap and term, especially when no other club would currently offer him anywhere close to the amount owed .

Reminder we could have signed Lenher and Varlamov for less than we signed bob for.

Agree and this is what I was hoping for but Bob was always in Panthers rumors waaaay before we signed him.

I've always wondered, who the f@ck wanted to sign him besides us? Its never been clear that there was a bidding war with other teams for him or anything, in typical Panthers fashion they straight up threw the bank at him and lost.

Its well known that Columbus was throwing like 8 or 9 M at him on a long term deal. Remember also, before we signed him there were rumors that the Isles were also gonna make an offer to him on July 1.
