I didn't realize until I read the following article what a good year for horror it's been... and it's not even October yet.

NY Times said:
LOS ANGELES -- Horror has printed money for Hollywood this year. "Get Out," "Annabelle: Creation" and "Split" took in a combined $850 million. "It" collected $120.3 million worldwide between Friday and Sunday, for an astounding two-week global total of about $371 million.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/17/...html?rref=collection/sectioncollection/movies

That's well over a billion dollars from four films in a genre in which grossing only $100M is a success. From those numbers, it seems like it could be one of the best years, box office-wise, for horror in quite a long time. I wonder how long it's been since horror was this successful.

I think Jigsaw will bring in another big payday for horror as well. If its going to be a good movie has yet to be answered but you can bet its gonna ring in some money.

That will probably be the last big horror movie of this year in terms of box office.

I think Happy Death Day could be fun but won't do anything major box office-wise

So, this is going to be a sequel? Loved the first, not sure about the tone (or Ellen Page, tbh) but I'll give this a shot at some point. I loved the first one. It's too bad they couldn't more of the original cast.

Yeah, I believe that it's technically a sequel, though it seems in every way to be more like a remake. Sutherland's character is now a professor at the ivy league school that he was a student at in the first film and I think that some of his students discover what he and his classmates did 27 years ago and try to do something along the same lines. It's odd that it feels like I've already watched the film. I guess that it's because I recently rewatched the original and this trailer gives a lot away.

Watched Annabelle Creation. Fantastic horror movie. 10x better than the first one.

This movie had me so uneasy and terrified and I loved it. Filled with jump scares which isn't something I like since they are overused but the build up and tension leading up to them was really well done.

So much foreshadowing as well like, hey you see this thing? We're gonna use it to scare the s*** out of you later

Edit: Also, have to give props to the sound editing in this flick, it was really well done and made me paranoid.

The director is the same who does those horror shorts and directed Lights Out

I've seen a nice mix of classic horror on the big screen via my local hole in the wall theatre this past week.... :yo: :yo: :yo:

Last Thursday night I caught the original "Halloween" from 1978, then I caught a 4K restoration of the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" from 1974 last Friday night.

Then last night I was extremely lucky and fortunate enough to catch a double bill of the new 4K Synapse restoration of Dario Argento's "Suspiria" (which looks and sounds ****ing amazing) and then the original "Night of the Living Dead" from 1968.

As far as the new Synapse 4K restoration of "Suspiria" goes, all I can say is "WOW!!" This was my first time seeing the film in over 20 years and the 4K restoration job that Synapse did was nothing short of jaw-droppingly amazing!!!!

I can honestly agree with others that I've talked to that seeing this stunning new restoration on the big screen was one of the most memorable theater experiences I've ever had.

In terms of horror movies that are "so horrendously bad that they are good" I might catch "Pieces" at my local hole in the wall indie theatre in a little more than a week.

This might be considered horror blasphemy but...I watched the original Hellraiser for the first time in over 20 years today and is it just me or is this film not very good ??

I get the gist of it plot wise that it's about a sleazy guy who seeks some next-level S&M shit and obviously gets more than he bargained for. He later gets resurrected and asks his ex-lover to kill for him so that he can fully regenerate so they can be together.

I dunno. The gore effects were sweet but overall I thought the film was all over the place plot wise and took awhile to get going....

Perusing the public library I came across Halloween 3.. I had seen it 5 or 6 times since it initially dropped in the 8os.. but checked it out for nostalgic reasons.
I know (& understand why) it was disliked because of Micheal Myers' absence. But I've always liked it as a stand-alone story. It was a concept that Carpenter wanted to expand.. different horror tales set on Halloween night.. but the movie's commercial & critical failure squashed that plan.
I like Halloween 3's masks, the ambience, the cast, etc. The villain's master plan was kinda weak & convoluted.. replace sacrificed kids w/robots (?) But I still dig it ~

I'm in the minority on 3, but any other fans (?)

Hellraiser has always been overrated

Honestly I think Hellraiser II is better film

So over the past month or so I've watched/rewatched...

IT
Annabelle Creation
mother!
The Snowman (More thriller, not actual horror but sometimes these genres get blended together)
The Babysitter

Will probably watch Flatliners soon as well.

Snowman was awful, mother! was super weird but I kinda liked it? Babysitter was fun, IT and Annabelle are both fantastic tho!!!

I feel like Netflix is the best platform for Horror movies. We could see some gems coming from it in the upcoming years.

Hellraiser: Judgment Coming Our Way in February 2018?

They need to let the Hellraiser franchise die already especially since they pushed out Bradley from role. Should have had Hellworld be end of it

The last one was awful with Bradley's replacement so terrible they already cast a new guy in this new film and Clive Barker came out against it basically calling it an embarrassment of a film that he had nothing to do with

Day of the Dead: Bloodline Gets an All-New Clip Featuring Johnathon Schaech as Max

I realize now why I stopped going to Fangoria/Dreadcentral much. So many horrible remakes of movies I loved

The first Day of the Dead Remake was a disaster (The so called Sequel was disgrace) and this is just as bad as them

How hard is it to make a zombie movie that isn't a joke? Do the people that make these films actually watch the Romero early dead trilogy?

Sadly used to love horror genre but have come to conclusion that since late 90's the majority of it is shit and it is getting worse

I miss the late 70's thru early 90's horror I grew up with

Which is why my horror bluray collection is mainly stuff from the 60's to the 80's.

Don't get me wrong....I do have a few 90's horror blu-rays, but they are Japanese horror flicks.

About 15 years ago, Schaech guest starred in a cool episode of the (new) Outer Limits, titled Alien Shop. Schech's given a temporary power to extract the contents of peoples' wallets, simply by coming in to contact w/his victims. Ends up being an ironic morality tale..

My opinion, regarding 80s (& early 9os) horror; it was a cool, singular era. Elm Street, a couple (original) Halloween sequels, Pumpkinhead, Candyman.. A good run for the genre.

I remember that episode vaguely

The shopkeeper/alien was the same actor who appeared as time traveler in several episodes

I wish Outer Limits would come out on DVD in uncut/unedited form

BHWin, yeah.. you have a good memory..
The actor who played the alien shopkeeper is Alex Diakun.
Diakun was cast in a couple good Outer Limits episodes.
He was a time-travelling photographer in the Gettysburg episode, & he did a killer job playing a time-travelling Nazi hunter in the episode Tribunal.

The 9os, syndicated Outer Limits is still one of my favorite shows..
