I love the "he's lying" comments. Whenever Homer says something people don't like or doesn't fit their picture of Homer as the bumbling idiot, he is lying. When it is something they like or it supports their bumbling idiot characterization, he's telling the truth.
It's simple. Holmgren does not like tipping his hand. He often goes on about how he likes his team and doesn't foresee anything happening before he makes a major move. Do I automatically think he's lying? No, but when it comes to this I do not take his words as face value.
