Holmgren doesn't see Flyers making major move

I love the "he's lying" comments. Whenever Homer says something people don't like or doesn't fit their picture of Homer as the bumbling idiot, he is lying. When it is something they like or it supports their bumbling idiot characterization, he's telling the truth.

It's simple. Holmgren does not like tipping his hand. He often goes on about how he likes his team and doesn't foresee anything happening before he makes a major move. Do I automatically think he's lying? No, but when it comes to this I do not take his words as face value.

Holmgren learned from Clarke to never tip your hand what your plans are. Do I think the Flyers make a serious move? I doubt it honestly. I think Holmgren will wait and see how the team responds when Hartnell and Mez get back.

If Homer had come out and said "Yeah, I want to make huge changes" that signals to 29 GMs that they can overcharge a desperate Philly. Even if he wants to make changes, it's in Holmgren's interest to say "nah, this team is cool. No panic here. All is well."

Doing so would be admitting he screwed up big time. Which everybody knows he did. No surprise here. Just a guy clamoring for his job through the media.

He says they released Nodl to gauge interest...everyone blows up and calls him an idiot...anyone who suggests this was a misstatement or something along those lines is a clear Homer apologist...Homer said it, therefore it is true.

He says during the draft they were looking at Hyka in 4th round but passed on him then forgot about him...everyone blows up and calls him an idiot for forgetting about such a generational talent...anyone who tries to defend the statement by saying maybe he didn't literally forget about him, but rather that he just got lost in the shuffle with the pile of other players that jumped up and down the board during the draft is just making excuses for Homer...Homer said it, therefore it is true.

Homer says a trade is not coming...HE'S CLEARLY LYING BECAUSE HE IS SO STUPID AND RUINED THIS ROSTER AND NOW HE HAS TO MAKE A TRADE BECAUSE HE IS STUPID!

All I ask is for some consistency around here.

People always want transparency from the President and the General Manager of a sports team.

That would compromise both jobs tremendously yet people don't ever seem to understand that.

I think a lot of the 'ok well, there's going to be a blockbuster next week' talk is just everyone joking. I usually don't believe much of anything Holmgren says, but I don't really care. I like the fact that he plays things close to the vest.

I'm not necessarily saying whether he is or isn't lying. I just think it is funny to see people react this way. It is similar to how they react to Eklund. If Eklund says "Flyers interested in trading for (insert unpopular player)," everyone will say that Eklund is 100% unreliable and has no sources and is a fraud. If Eklund says "Flyers interested in trading for (insert popular player)," everyone says that he may be on to something here and they can see that happening and he has good Flyers sources, etc.

There isn't really a move to make. With this league parity, when the trade deadline comes along, we might be lucky if more than 2 teams are truly selling

Yea. That's why I always assume that any GM that ever says anything about their team is lying....or at the most telling a half truth. This sounds like a half truth to me.

I said that I didn't see him making any major moves this season and I stand by that. When a coach is on the hot seat you just don't go making major moves when the team looks to be in good shape with good young players and a good mix of veteran leadership involved. Getting Kimmo back for another season is huge.

Ha ha...you all are so predictable. I guess I've been on here too long. But seriously, I agree ..with Holmgren you have to watch..he speaks out of both sides of his mouth. As a GM that is kind of what they have to do in some ways but I just think Holmgren is particularly bad with it. Usually, you know he's up to something when he starts enagaging in denials and hyperbole ("that is absurd etc.).

He'll probably make a minor move but yeah I honestly can't see a MAJOR move being done so I do believe he's being more truthful than usual..only b/c it seems kind of obvious there really isn't a viable major move that can be made..especially one that will fill all their holes. They should attempt to fill at least one of them like a faceoff guy. A puck moving D that can play big minutes is going to cost you, another productive winger is also going to be tough to find. That leaves a backup goalie and a faceoff specialist as the easier holes to fill with a more minor move.

Huge mistake re-signing Kimmo, unless they asked him to waive his NT and he said "no". Otherwise, they could have gotten a good return for him at the TDL. Briere is another one they should ask to waive.

Instead, they throw around second round picks for the Pavel Kubina's of the world.

Timonen was not going to go anywhere. He would retire if the Flyers approached him for a trade. He seemed to suggest this when they interviewed him after they signed him. Heck he was probably going to retire if we didn't have a season. He wanted to see how his back felt and so far so good. He is playing well although the compacted schedule might affect him even if the season is shorter. We'll see....unfortunately just like Desjardins..we're running him into the ground but at least the Flyers tried to get him help with Pronger.

Yeah I think Briere's time may be up but they keep playing him out of position....especially now that Schenn has started to pick it up.

So sick of the picks we give away for players like Funky Cold Kubina...

I said it as a joke. Remember a couple weeks ago when Eklund reported the Timonen signing and Homer was all "Oh no we didn't" and Eklund was like "Oh yes you did" and Homer was like "Oh okay yeah we did." That's why.

I am not yet ready to cut ties with Briere. The guy comes to play in the playoffs and he seems to get along well with the team.

Don't trade Brière to fast guys.... His a money player and if the Flyers make playoff i'm sure he will score many big goal. I think his a good leader and help the young player.

There are many other instances of Homer saying one thing and days later the opposite occurs. He's sneaky sneaky.

Briere does score a lot in the playoffs, but he is also on the ice a lot when other teams score in the playoffs. He has been -7 and -6 the last two years in the playoffs even though he was among the league leaders in points. I know plus minus isn't the best indicator, but that is telling.

Well if it's not now it has to be over the summer. We currently have 62 of a 64m cap committed to 19 players for next season, so someone has to go.

If Homer is saying anything, it´s like he has say nothing....

It´s a virus? --> no it´s a career ending concussion (Pronger)
He is our Captain and we are satisfied with the way he present our franchise---> No we trade him for prospects (Richards)
We don´t sign Timonen --> Oh yes we sign him for 6.0 .....

Sure he has said a lot of things going to be true, but maybe that was just a fluke ^^

If he is saying he don´t see us making a big move, he maybe want to say he don´t find a big move? Or he want to say, hear ducks, i´am not desperate to get Ryan, but if you want a big move you must overpay for our guy....

I´am don´t give 1 cent to anything Homer is saying!

But DrinkFightFlyers [mod] i don´t blame Homer for being what he is. It´s his job describtion! He must lie to us and the whole league because with the truth he don´t win anything! It´s the business what is forcing him to be what he is...

So maybe there is coming a big move or maybe not.... But our Problems are not solved by one move... believe me!

Thanks for your time guys

There's simply no other way to cut it, whether he is serious or not...saying you gauged interest in a player by waiving them is just damned stupid. There isn't a way you can make that sound smart. You're really overreacting over this.

Also, nobody blows up on Homer because Hyka is a generational talent. They blow up on him because he didn't know the damned rules.
