Craziest part of "the Save" is that it was Bratt that was putting it in our own net.

I think he needs to figure out powerplay at the NHL level. NHL level also helped him figure out how to be better defensively (I think he's much better in this department).

Someone smarter than me once posted that 1st overalls get into NHL even if they're not ready for marketing/ticket sales reasons, which sadly seems to be the case.

I also think we need to recalibrate expectations for high picks now that we are post-millennials coming into the league from a smaller population size.

Wonder how much of his struggles was Covid related. Any equilibrium issues
would really screw up your goaltending.
How could you think that? A couple of posters here said using COVID was just an excuse because COVID did not affect their beer league teams so it could not possible affect the Devils playing 4 games a week.:sarcasm:

What a ridiculous game, should be plenty of post game discussion to be had. The devils played decent the first half or so, but the third was tough. Win is a win, but at this point I think I’d rather see more of our guys in the scoresheet (even in a loss).

Merkley is so close of being a top6 guy, if only he had a little bit more skill and hockey iq. Not sure if he can ever develop into one. Boqvist still doesn’t look NHL caliber. Don’t know if this jumping between leagues is the right move here, he probably should play the rest of the year and possibly next in the AHL. Or just play him full time in the NHL and hope he figures it out.

The line combinations still aren’t working, can’t wait to have Nico back so we can hopefully have two working lines (YS-TZ-JK, PZ-NH-JB).

Skating isn't Jack's issue. It's much more about decision making which he wouldn't be able to learn in college as he is far too talented for the NCAA.
That's one of my biggest issues with the complaints of Jack. He thinks the game at an elite level, but the difference between him and other 1oa picks that made the jump was 1 the drastic difference in competition and 2 his actual physical limitations. He certainly would have dominated the NCAA and not learned anything because the stuff that doesn't work in the NHL still does in college hockey. Factor that in with the fact that he is still extremely weak he is going to lose puck battles, the kid needs to take his lumps and that's the reality of it.

Edwards had a fit at the end of the 2nd when Zacha got away with tripping, then got a big dick over Wood being offsides because it should have been intentionalt offsides and a faceoff in the Devils zone.

Then Brickley wouldn't STFU about the goalie interference "this isn't the game I know" and "you're allowed to enter the crease to make a play on the puck"
Jerkoffs.

Al Trautwig would have acted with more tact.

LOL what clowns those two are. That was the most obvious goalie interference I’ve seen in a long time. If they let that stand, then it would be “open season” on goalies as Lindy would say.

He doesn’t need to learn anything. It’s obvious the only thing holding him back is strength. It’s not exactly easy to put on mass and stick to a strength training routine at the NHL level. With Jack’s style of play and the compact schedule, I wouldn’t be shocked if he lost most of the weight he put on in the offseason.
I absolutely think this is at least somewhat of the case. He just looks so much different from the start of the season. Maybe COVID really got him.

Exactly what Chico said. If that's not interference then it's open season on goalies.
I really gotta start listening to Matt and Chico. Obviously today with the national broadcast was an interesting change of pace, but one can only tolerate Squeaky Steve and Dan-OH! for so long.

Except we all know they would let that one go, and then call Wood for a penalty when he did it next game.

I remember one from a season or two ago where the play was exactly like this and somehow the review allowed it to stand.

good rule of thumb: Nobody can ever be 100% sure what is goalie interference. The only standard is “how does the ref feel in that moment”.

I am getting ready to raise my long term expectations on what Smith can be for this team.

It really hasn’t been how he’s gotten his points but he’s been so good at jumping into the offensive rush. Picking the right moments and having the right spacing. That’s where the bunches of points will come in the future.
