Originally wanted Laporte but Varane there was too good to pass up.

Good sequence of picks pretty much interchangeable.
Agreed, 3 brilliant players. Varane will probably end up as the most decorated defender ever, Marquinhos is excellent both as CB and DM and Laporte... well we've seen how comically City defend without him.

I wanted Laporte just decided against it last moment. Save for KDB the other two players I have aren't really favourites of mine.

Which is in some ways meaningless. David May is more decorated than a lot of defenders who were better than he was. Either way, I think all are good picks here. As someone who has drafted Varane multiple times in the past, and I've said this before, he's not entirely lived up to the billing. Far too inconsistent if you ask me. Still plenty of time for him to live up to his full potential as he enters his prime and the tools are there.

Agreed in everything you said. Varane has all the tools to be the best defender in the world but has only been able to be there for a short time (WC season).

I was considering Laporte too but I like the versatility of Marquinhos and he's an excellent ball distributor very much like Laporte

I would agree he has some down years. He could be just dominant if he ironies out his consistency issue but he's still good when he's not at his best. Really what edged it out was his upside over Laporte. I could see it going either way.

Guradiola on Laporte:

“It’s incredible,” Guardola said. “We have missed him a lot, he’s the best left central defender in the world. Imagine the best teams in the world lose their best central defender. We miss him a lot because he’s a specialist left foot where our buildup. He is fast, strong in the air.” “He has something that we don’t have in the squad. His left foot and many actions to build up to make it quicker and better – we don’t have it, not because the other ones are not good but he has the only left foot as a central defender and for the way we want to play that is so important. His character and mentality and winning, he has all the attributes. For me, when he is fit he is the best left central defender in the world.”

Laporte is one of the best ball playing CBs I've seen. I remember reading he had the most progressive carries in Europe last season. He is imperative to the style I want my team to play with and makes Sane's life a lot easier.

What would bald fraud know about defence?

In pep's case it's 8 times a day...

Laporte is different from Varane in the most basic sense for the purposes of this draft in that he's left-footed. Their age difference is less than I thought, only a year. I thought it was two years, but that's not much. Back to their natural foot though, I don't think that makes such a big deal. Look at Van Dijk. Anyway, I'd take Varane over Laporte if I had to choose, but both are good choices here. Marquinhos as well of course.

As for Guardiola's comments, I think there is some context that isn't there. He's not wrong, but it's lacking context.

I was debating between picking two players, but I took Fabinho because I didn't think he'd make it to my next pick, while I can't guarantee but think its likely that the other player will be available at my next pick. Let's see if that happens. I have a good back up option either way for my next pick.

I think it’ll be a popular pick but I think Fabinho is overrated personally (though I’ve said this for a while).

Plenty of players for me to consider, and of course I'm in a position of having a lot of considerations, but I had to get who I wanted. Very specific pick to how I'm building this team as of right now.

Best picks (also determined by value)

1st round: Sancho
2nd: Sterling (Sane close second)
3rd: B. Silva
4th: N/A

Worst picks (also determined by value)
1st: Werner
2nd: Firmino
3rd: Benzema (followed by Mahrez)
4th: N/A

Seems a lot of you blokes are grabbing strikers for the sake of getting them before they run out.

More good picks. Verratti was on my radar for this pick, but Fabian suits me better and is more versatile. I think Rashford is good and was wondering how far he'd fall.

I drafted him last summer like in the 13th round or something and people were criticising the pick. Lol.

I really like the Rashford pick. It seems people are sleeping on him, when he was in the PL golden boot race before his injury.

I almost went Verratti to complete my midfield but there’s a couple other options out there that should hopefully fall to my pick. Rashford is a great pick up as he really seems to be figuring it out and was looking dominant on a team that couldn’t produce a lick of offense outside of him. Plus he provides good flexibility positionally.
