The King's deterioration as he has aged is to be expected and quite noticeable. He is not even as good as Georgi at this point. The stats paint an objective unmistakable truth. Time spares noone.:

Thats why you dont sign anyone past 35.

People dread 30 but its 35 where things start really falling apart

They're not going to steal a series playing like this. They could have prime Hank. They have been awful.

Every single aspect of this series has been a Carolina advantage. Coaching, depth, forwards, defense, special teams, etc.

I'd love to have seen Igor in these 2 games. But it's delusional to think we win this series with him at this rate.

Sometimes you need the goalie to stand on his head to motivate the team to play better and to put doubt in the other teams ability to score. Being down so early in both games is deflating. Not saying it would have guaranteed us a win but it might have put us in a better spot. Its irrelevant anyway as Shesterkin was unfit, the real question is if they will use Georgiev today if he is still unfit. Love Hank, but he is past his prime, and if he really loves the rangers he will retire and let us keep Georgiev next year, I'm sure they will offer him a sweet job somewhere with the org.

Would be awesome for Hank to do us the favor of retiring and saving us from cap hell. Otherwise he would continue to be an albatross for one more season as he has been the last couple. If he has been and still considers himself to be a starting level goalie he is at best a mediocre one. You can't have his GAA and Save Percentage and hope to do well, regular season or playoffs. Pity as he is, IMHO, the greatest Ranger of all time but come on, let's have some reality here. And the Eli comparison is so dead on. People fall in love with their heroes, I get it.

Also Was it a bomb or a change up ? I see both versions of excuses instead of reality here
This is what I was thinking while reading this post...people saying it was an absolute bomb...that knuckled.

Wtf? That's not how physics works. You're never going to see a 100mph knuckler for a reason. When a puck knuckles it's got increased drag on it which makes it do weird things.. the velocity is lower for that reason.

Undeflected shots knuckle because you shank it. If you release a bomb.. the puck isn't going to be going end over end.

That puck neither looked like a bomb or much of a knuckler..it was a high shot that Henrik inexplicably dropped down into the butterfly for.

I love Henrik. He's one of my 3 favorite players of all time..not just rangers...all NHL players.

He's a first ballot hall of famer. IMHO he's the best goalie of this entire generation.

But those first 2 goals are back breaking deflating goals.

Sure. It's not that I just post here a lot and find your opinions terrible, I "shadow" you. Does that make you feel more important? If so, I'm happy to oblige.

Updating my tagline.

thank goodness you have my coattails to ride on.

The excuses for the King's more recent mediocrity are somewhat legendary. His numbers were bad IE worse than almost all his backups over the fairly recent past because the Rangers don't feel they have to defend with him in net. I've seen that one many times. So, in conclusion, they play worse when he is in net but it's not because of him or a reflection on him.

Hank is so competitive and has been THE guy for so long that I wouldnt be surprised if he winds up retiring. I just cant see that man being ok with sitting on the bench for +40 games

He's expected to earn 5.5 mill plus a signing bonus at the beginning of the season. But your point still stands.

Kevin Klein (Career earnings $19,711,931) retired and walked away from $2,750,000. That is 13.9% of his career earnings.

Henrik Lundqvist (Career earnings $98,283,390) if he retires would walk away from $4,500,000.
That would come down to 4.57% of his career earnings.

You could argue that Lundqvist, if he retires gives up less than Klein did in 2017

Oh trust me I understand the relativity of the amount compared to his total earnings. Difference between Klein and Lundqvist is that Lundqvist can still play (just not on the rangers). Klein retired due to injuries. Personally I like the Naslund example better.

Lundqvist might retire, but he is under no obligation to especially if he wants to play 1 more season in the NHL and knows the rangers will buy him out.

Klein has played for 3 more years in the Swiss league after he retired. Lundqvist could easily play a few more years in Sweden and earn a nice sum to partially offset the loss

Hank misplayed the above play but was not a soft goal, top of circle is absolutely high danger on top of being a one-timer from a high-end shooter.
Just because it was a 'high danger' area, doesn't mean the goal wasn't soft af. It was a fluttering changeup that he NEEDS to stop, he's had trouble with those throughout his enter career unfortunately.

It may have just been me but when they showed him on the bench near the end of the game tonight he looked like a man who has accepted this was his last game.

all night Sam spoke like he knew it was hank's last game with the rangers...the only question is how does it end. I hope he retires, not only is it best for our cap situation but for his rangers career to end with a buyout that would be awful

I would also prefer henke not pull a Marty and go play meaningless games in St Louis as opposed to retiring his NHL career exclusively w the franchise that he carried for over a decade

I wouldn't be surprised if he went home and played a few seasons with his brother in Frolunda. It would be a nice ending to a career that had everything but a cup.

Really going to miss the guy. He was the organization's rock for 15 years.

It's simple...Igor is the future, and Georgiev is good enough to be a starter somewhere else. Trade him in the offseason, Hank is the backup for his last remaining year and does his farewell tour with one last shot to win.

Hank is not just a goaltender, he's the team's leader and Igor's idol/mentor. One last ride with Benny and him can only help Igor's development for the long run.

Backup's are cheap, and Igor is the long term solution. I take that route if I am Gorton and JD.

It hurts knowing this is probably the end for him. A real blow to the gut. He is essentially the generational player for me. Started watching him early in high school and now here I am with a career and he's most likely moving on. Talent wasted. We had two "real" opportunities in my opinion, the year we went to the finals and the year we lost to the Devils in the ECF. Other than that I never really felt the teams around him were complete enough to win the Cup. He carried a lot of mediocre teams a lot further than they should have went. Hopefully I am not reliving this feeling in 15 years with Igor.
