Honestly , this board will have the knives out in 2-3 years into the new contracts is my guess.
I don't think we had any choice so let's hope it goes well for 4 years hopefully anyways.
If people thought Wheeler had it bad as his contract went along ...hooooboy for Scheifele.

( whipping boys are essential on HF :sarcasm: )
You meant in 2 - 3 days, right?

Brah this board has had knives out for scheifele for years when he was getting paid less

Some of it by his own doing for sure with the fall off of his overall game since the 17-18 season. But this team crumbles without him in the POs offensively. yet apparently to some we're better off without him 🤔
There's no doubt he elevates his game in the PO's (when healthy) - and it's tough losing your #1 center at any time, let alone the PO's.
I've never seen the knives come out due to a lack of production - it's other things that tend to bring out the cutlery with this player.
We are not better off without him - I don't know anyone that was up for watching him walk for nothing.

Still the wrong way to go. We still have only 1 young Dman in our top 6 and he is a LHD. Two of our top 6 are still pending UFA, including our only RHS Dman who can actually play D. Our other 2 RD will be gone a year later. Morrissey won't last forever. Those TD assets need to be spent on acquiring replacement/better Dmen - with term.
I agree the Jets are a few pieces away, but giving away blue chip players at the deadline to fill other holes just creates new ones. This team right now is better and deeper on paper than at this point in time last year. I'm interested to see if Chevy can keep this improvement trend going.

It was said that Chef and Helly signed the same deal, but only really for cap hit.... otherwise there are some differences.

Puckpedia has it being identical down to the terms and dollars each year, Capfriendly on the other hand still doesn't have any specifics for Scheifele. If you look at Capfriendly it'll have an exclamation mark next to the contract and say that the details haven't been confirmed yet.

I mean they have turned over core pieces over the years. Laine, PLD, Buff, and Wheeler are gone now.

This team doesnt have the sane core, and they will likely graduate Perfetti and Vilardi to it this year.

But it's up to the players now to go out and prove that they are as good as they think they are.

Even though today is day 1 of the NHL regular season and the Jets will be heading this afternoon to Calgary to take on the Flames tomorrow night in the Season Opener the focus today was all about the contract extensions for Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele. Following practice the duo alongside GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and coach Rick Bowness spoke.

This person's comment on this article sums it up nicely:

"You media hacks can't have it both ways... Hundreds of articles written about how no free agents would ever sign in Winnipeg and that the stars all want out, but when two more star players commit long-term to the team and the community, it is a missed opportunity to jettison a core that hasn't delivered a cup. Chevy is a very capable GM and played this offseason brilliantly. He waited until the estimated cap increase for next season was announced to make fair offers to Hellebuyck and Scheifele. Unless you know of any other #1 centres or Vezina goaltenders that were lining up to sign with the Jets next offseason, give credit where credit is due."

There is going to be lots of back pedalling by media because their predictions on these two players turned out to be wrong.

Dailyfaceoff is junk articles, IMO

Not sure what you are referring to with "giving away blue chip players at the deadline".

I'm against giving away valuable assets for rentals. Those assets need to be used to acquire the blue chip players we need on a longer term basis.

I liked what Chevy did last year. He spent lesser assets to acquire depth players with at least a little term.

I can get behind those type of moves as well. If he's going for a Marque piece it has to have some term.

While I am not a fan of 55, and while I was looking forward to seeing what 55 looked like with the pressure of a contract year..

I must admit, im ok with this contract for now.

Wish i could set a reminder to this comment in 7 years from now.

I might feel different about it in 2030.
How we feel about these contracts in 2030 may totally depend on what happens over the next few years. If the Jets are a PO bubble team for most of the years and go no where in the PO's a rebuilt would of been the better option. If on the other hand this team can put it all together and have one or more deep run in the PO's or heaven forbid win the Cup itself then these contracts will be worth it no matter how either player plays in year 6-7.

Some of the Winnipeg media are just so... asking Chevy if these deals are "home team discount". One glance around the league would show you that these are absolute market value contracts.
