Speculation: Habs were big on Fowler in 2016, do they inquire in 2019?

While Fowler is the exactly what the Habs need — a top pairing LD — he would cost way too many assets for the Canadiens to acquire. Montreal is not in a position to give up that many assets at this point in their rebuild. This doesn’t even take into consideration Fowler’s NTC.

Matter of principle.

I hope Habs don't trade for anyone, don't mess with the actual chemistry, and just let the team gel and grow together as much as possible.

We're not 'there' yet, even though we're fighting for a playoff spot (I didn't expect that)

Fowler will cost way more to the Habs than I care to give up, even though he'd easily become our best LHD.

If Fowler were to be moved, I'd think Anaheim would want a 1-for-1 deal for a scoring winger or young, productive centre. Basically, a higher-value version of the Vatanen-Henrique trade.

That's where Drouin comes in mind. Young, proven, cost controlled. The most expensive year behind. All the Ducks seek. He may also be able to play center.

Why do the Hab's want Silfverberg? Keep your picks and give us Drouin. Or take both and we get Drouin and your first.

amazing value and great playoff RW, we need a top 6 RW
Maybe its just me but idk that the Canadians are in a spot where they should waste assets for a potential rental. Silf is good but if contenders are bidding on him you guys are on the lower side of the contender list, might get a lil expensive for 1 playoff run.

Tho I feel like Gallagher + Silf on a line would be pretty good playoff line.

Drouin for Fowler is a trade for thé long term and i would absolutely do it. I wouldn’t pay our first for a rental winger though. Wait for UFA this summer as their might be good possibilities. Nyquist, Simmonds, Silf

This. Or we can replace him internally for this year and have Suzuki jump in as soon as next year.
I would do Drouin Vs Fowler or Drouin + 3rd Vs Fowler + 5th any time. We are good trading partners with Anaheim. We're full of wingers and they're full of Ds. I think it would be a good deal for both teams.

only problem with Drouin is that we have no other first line LW

Everyone quoting 4 team no trade list is funny because we've had this discussion on our board and our beat writer confirmed that it's a 4 team NO TRADE as in, he submits a list of 4 teams he cannot accept a trade to. Capgeek is apparently not correct.

It is NOT only a 4 team trade list.

I take it you are referring to this:

Fowler’s contract contains a limited no-trade clause, with four unknown teams believed to be on it.

Ducks lock up Cam Fowler for eight years, sign goalie Ryan Miller – Orange County Register

Stephens is just one guy saying this. Every other source is saying something else.

Anyone else see Fowler's NTC as an issue?

This. Only teams i see him blocking & putting on No Trade list: Rangers/Florida/Carolina/Ottawa.
I bet he'd be ok going to Montreal - he gets to be the #1 LHD, the city + food + good team on the rise.
I see him not having LA on his no trade cause its same general area as Anaheim to live, i see him being ok with Detroit cause its where he grew up, i see him wanting to completely avoid Carolina/Florida cause they don't seem to have a direction & having been rebuilding for ages. I don't see him blocking Chicago cause they know how to draft quite well & will be back to being a playoff team in a year or two.

This was not an offer per se, I simply threw a base offer out there of some names and picks and asked if it would be enough and go from there.

Also, I get you want the most for your player, but how many times have teams gotten in real life trades what HF perceived as good value?

Remember the Kane or Skinner trades? 95% of HF boards thought these trades were crap, yet they still happened.

What HF perceives as a "horrible trade" is a moot point.

If you were to counter with what I believe is a lobsided trade I would simply say that I can't do that and doit the Habs do it as well and that's that.

I wouldn't comment that you are on crack and you should stop following hockey and start following ping pong.

Anyways, I believe an NHL ready player, one or two prospects and a couple picks is good return.
It may be scrap to the Ducks, but it may also be good enough and they pull the trigger if indeed they want to really shake things up and change the culture in the team.

You're absolutely clueless
