Listening to the talk in French media today, opinions are mixed. Some feel very strongly about this record. But most interesting to me is that they have had a Quebec player for 112 years.
Oh Gawd! Please keep this on the Habs board.
I know. And we all know how this thread will potentially devolve.OP is a leafs fan.
Who is the last French player that was a star in the league. St. Louis?
It's been pretty rough....

Bergeron, Letang, Huberdeau...
As long as they keep hiring/drafting based on language, they will be stuck in mediocrity.
Drafting? When you make such a statement, at least know what you're talking about.
Do you even know how many french Canadian player the Habs drafted in the past 10 years?
They drafted Louis LeBlanc simply because the draft was in Montreal. And he was French. I know that was 12 years ago. But still...
Freddy Gauthier. Although it looks like they've learnt their lesson. We could almost do the opposite thread with the Leafs at some point. Like 50+ seasons without a frenchie. Seems like Toronto rarely draft/sign them. Damphousse, Gauthier, Potvin are the only ones I can name off the top of my head. I haven't verified this at all, just sharing my thoughts and it's not some kind of blame either, please don't take this the wrong way.
Has Toronto ever iced a lineup without one single Ontarian born player?
Only McDavid, Draisaitl, Kane, MacKinnon, Panarin and Marchand have scored more points than Huberdeau over the last three years. He's a star, just a very underrated one.Very good. Not a star.
Maybe Letang.
Huberdeau is over PPG in his last three seasons; how isnt he a star?Very good. Not a star.
Maybe Letang.
