Any decent NHL player would put up a couple of points playing with top end players. Kelly scored 17 points in 15 game or so, centering Healthy and Alfredsson. That doesn't mean Kelly is a top 6 players.

Hoffman and Dzingle came into the league also playing on the bottom 2 lines, and actually force their way into the top6 with their skill (not talking about their speed). White, so far, has failed to do that. If he has the talent he will also force his way into the top6.

Ryan and Stone have put up just as many points as White while always playing in the top 6 & 1st pp.

Ryan and Stone have put up just as many points as White while always playing in the top 6 & 1st pp.

It is not always about the points. It is also about a player's ability to generate offense. Stone is just having a slow start and Ryan is well, regressing rapidly. How ever, both are proven top 6 players with far more offensive instincts than White has, or will ever have.

I mean you can slot in White at Ryan's spot on Duchene's line, but then I would simple argue, why not try Balcers or Batherson there? Since they are better suited in that role, and will generate more offensive.

Have you always been a Leafs fan or is this just a recent development?

Paajarvi and Pyatt are absolutely fine, I see no need to get rid of them: both are fast, effective skaters who know their limits and play well within them all while being very cheap.

They will likely get traded as the season progresses. They are expiring UFAs and as part of the rebuild veterans will need to get traded to make space for prospects. We already have Tkachuk, Formenton and White up, as the season progresses most likely all of Paul, Batherson, Balcers, Chlapik and possibly Brown will need roster spots.

I really need an explanation as to why does GB needs to put White in the top 6? What has he shown to warrant a top 6 position? Top 2 lines are for players who have some offensive skills like lethal shot, stick handling or ability to control the play, and White has none of those skills. He is a good defensive players and is well suited for a bottom 6 role, preferably on the 3rd line.

Now why is his ice-time so low? That is another discussion

I can name a bunch of players who clearly deserve to be in the top 6 ahead of him

Duchene
Stone
Dzingle
Thachuk
Tierny
Boedker
Ryan
Formenton

At this point, if I need a player to actually fill in a top 6 position to help with the offensive, I would bring up Batherson or Balcer before putting White in there
Maybe he is looking to trade him?

It's because Boucher finally got his head out of his ass and tried something different with the PP. Also Brady Tkachuk.

Amen brother. I'm a positive person, but even I was losing my mind watching the same old thing for 164 games. The entry was completely predictable, it took sooo long to set up, and even when they were able to get control in the offensive zone, it was too easy to defend. Video sessions for opposing teams would have literally lasted like 2 minutes. Boucher was hailed as a power play specialist, yet the team sucked ***** for 2 straight seasons.

"How could this be so Guy? How could the team stuck ***** on the power play for 2 straight years"

-Well I outsourced the responsibility to my assistant coach and gave him no practice time to be successful-

"I appreciate your candor Guy and I'm definitely no expert, but you might want to think about doing the complete ******* opposite."

Interesting fact: the 2nd unit (Boedker, Tierney, Tkachuk, Lajoie, Wideman) is responsible for 4/5ths of Ottawa's PP goals this year, with Tierney and Lajoie leading the way with 4 points apiece. 4 (FOUR) of those players did not play for the team last year and the 5th was holed up on a couch somewhere in Stitts-vegas, nursing a bum leg.

This game should be a fun one to watch. Not to sound too cliche, but I think it holds true to a higher degree tonight: this could be Andy vs Price to decide who wins. Lots of speed, both teams generating offence, everyone expecting some fireworks and maybe some wide open hockey, so it would stand to reason that a goalie might need to shine. Now watch, the game will end 8-6 as I write this lol.

Being a homer and feelin' a win tonight. 5-3 good guys. Duchene scores a couple.

EDIT: So I guess I'm predicting a goalie to not stand on his head haha.
