It's more than one bad play. Despite his offensive output he's a liability out there, he's been prone to numerous give aways, weak coverage and defensive brain cramps since day 1.
In his defense his shortcomings are compounded when he's put in a position where he is overly relied upon as has been the case with Weber's injuries past 2 seasons.
It’s 10 bad plays, fact is we’d be hovering in Senator country if it weren’t for him

Habs are regressing to the mean...

Big surprise

we have played well above our heads to this point in the season, this shouldn't be surprising at all,

the schedule is also a lot more difficult for us from this point on, we have had it relatively easy to this point,

9th to 11th in the conference is where we finish

the only reason we finish in one of these spots is because there are so many crappy teams in our conference now

I was being sarcastic about the surprise part

What a horrible death.....**** I’m glad I live in the 2000’s
Jeeze, i meant the post as comic relief. It conjured up visions of morbid death in you and bafflement in another poster who is playing hooky at work.:sarcasm: That'll teach me to make a lame effort at humour.

True, but Petry can have a good period, and then a bad period...tough to figure, he is hardly consistant, but is having a pretty decent season.
Agree. Petry's consistency is the reason he's not a 1st pairing D man. He has all the ability to be one, but he can't do it all the time. He's an excellent 2nd pairing D man and I'm happy we have him.

What? Montreal's been at the mean for basically the entire season. They have been and remain a great ES team. Their special teams (especially PP) have been atrocious. They haven't been getting lucky this season or unlucky. They've had very shallow peaks and values.

They've had a pretty average SoS so far and are expected to have a pretty average SoS the rest of the way too.

Montreal isn't regressing to the mean, they're just a very average team.

PK was ready to step in. Thank goodness it won't be needed, he can take his sign down.

None of the teams in our division are bad and those are the teams we play most frequently.

How did Weber escape a fracture on that shot to the face?? Oh that's right, he's the Man Mountain. He eats pucks for breakfast.

I meant in terms of win% versus the make-up of the team.

When someone talks about a sports team regressing to the mean, unless specified otherwise, it's about a team's potential vs its output.

You just made it about something else.

How exactly was Montreal overachieving? It kind of seems like you're basing your opinion on blind perception of potential vs. the statistical expectation of the team's output. Montreal's performance was unexpected based on players having down years last year (and not factoring in Kotkaniemi), but this roster has generally been thoroughly mediocre.

Because the output that got us to +8 in win% was based on a few players producing over their potential.

It's not blind perception. Now instead of climbing the walls because you got a stick up yours about having a hard time with perceptions that don't fit your own, realize that potential OUTPUT is based on what those players did before. And yes, a lot of them were higher than their usual mean.

Now go argue with someone else.
