We're discussing this in the hockey ops thread

I don't know how to feel based on the post below

2016:
Tarmo Reunanen 98th - Decent 4th round pick that played a few games in the NHL and could plya more

2017:
Lias Andersson 7th - Wasted top 10 pick
Filip Chytil 21st - Decent NHL player
Calle Sjalin 145th - Developing nicely but slowly, still probably a bust
Dominik Lakatos 157th - Still playing in the top Czech at 24, bust
Patrik Virta 207th - Bust

2018:
Vitali Kravstov 9th - Good prospect but likely drafter too soon
Nils Lundkvist 28th - Seems like a good pick so far but not an NHLer yet
Oskar Lindblom 37th - Average numbers this year in the 2nd Swedish pro league, still young
Jakob Ragarsson 70th - 4 more points in 6 less games in Allsvenskan 2022 vs 2018, development stalled
Lauri Pajuniemi 132nd - Decent 1st AHL year so far in 21-22
Simon Kjellberd 163rd - Decent so far in NCAA

2019:
Kaapo Kakko 2nd - Tough start so far but was consensus 2nd overall. Need more time to evaluate properly
Karl Henriksson 58th - Progressing but slowly, too soon to tell
Leevi Aaltonen 130th - Not much progression, probably a bust
Adam Hedstrom 161st - Nothing special in SHL so far

2020
Oliver Tarnstrom 92nd - Progressing, too soon to call but likely nothing special
Hugo Ollas 197th - Very solid numbers in hist 1st NCAA year 21-22 so far

2021
Kalle Vaisanen 106th - Too soon to tell
Jaroslav Chmelar 144th - Too soon to tell but 0.5 PPG in Jr Liiga at 18 is not really good

more heads for the European scouting department is pretty good. I don't think we had a lot of scouts in europe.

[TBODY] [/TBODY]
We have Telepin, Riendeau in Russia, Krupa, Laine, Lehmann and Rockstrom as chief european scout

Habs have been drafting pretty well overseas the past few years. Hopefully this new management values the prospects they've inherited. It seems like Gorton is building his guys from NYR, which I guess is normal but still somewhat worrisome. Oh well. Let's see what happens I guess. Hopefully Hughes gets his guys in there too.

Not sure I want any of the Rangers guys. They actually got worse at drafting under Gorton. A lot of their guys fell flat. Though granted how much can you blame scouts for Laf or Kakko? Consensus, and I mean 100% majority, had them going in those spots. Still their late round picks have come up empty.

Anything is better than nothing. When your best Swede was Mats Naslund back in 1980, and you've had 2 Finns in the last 20 years, I'd call that a problem.

Add to that, 2 Russians in , I don't know how long.

As long as Rockstrom leaves. Congrats on being the only person to travel to the middle of nowhere to see Lidstrom play 30 years ago, but your time is up.
It was not THAT much in the middle of nowhere, an hour drive from the capital of Sweden to see Västerås, a bottom team in the SHL (which was known as Elitserien at the time) to see him get the odd shifts in 20 games.

Lidströms teammate Popovic was drafted by the Habs a year earlier, and Patrik Juhlin in the second round by the Flyers the same year the Red Wings picked up Lidström.

He was Director of Scouting for SKA St Petersburg between 2011 and 2015. Don't what was really his role but during his time there, they bring those young players (at that time): Sergeri Bobrobvski, Artemi Panarin, Vladimir Tarasenko, Igor Shestyorkin, Evgeni Dadonov and Vadim Shypachev

In comparison, these are the prospects we drafted from EU in the past 10 years during Bergevin's tenure:

Kapanen, Sobolev, Kostenko, Gordin, Norlinder, Dichow, Khisamutdinov, Kotkaniemi, Ylonen, Romanov, Olofsson, Ikonen, Henrikson, Vejdemo, De la Rose, Lehkonen, Collberg, Nystrom

Better hire the right guys considering the team is going to be shit again next year, and the top 5 in the 2023 draft features 3 potentially franchise-altering euros.

Hopefully his contacts in Russia can help in signing some quality Euro free agents from the KHL, an area Bergevin never excelled at.not from there, the CHL or the NCAA.

Id say this is the first move so far that I’m not pleased with, the track record isn’t good and it seems like he was mainly hired because he was Gorton’s guy
