We're probably going to lose Juulsen at the expansion draft anyway if no other moves are made involving those who are currently slated to grab the three D expansion slots.

If Pulju can be had for less than Juulsen, sure. But, if Juulsen is the ask, Pulju checks off several boxes even if he's a psycho.

And, why is that? JP has a ton of question marks about his game, Juulsen hasn't even had a chance yet. Are we trying to be the softest team in NHL history? I wouldn't take any Oiler garbage at this point, its tainted.
Pulju is not "soft" he is 6'4 and over 220 lbs. He just need to be less sure of himself like Drouin

A gamble worth taking. He is obviously done in Edmonton and the new GM needs to close this chapter.

Put him and Drouin on the same line together, it should work.:sarcasm:

What if we let Juulsen play and he proves worthy of protecting in expansion draft? Like he takes a big step forward, one that I don't think is unrealistic. Especially if Weber or Petry go down and he steps in and fills in important minutes well.

I'd rather keep that potential asset and trade him at deadline with inflated value or work to keep him protected. Poopooparty is a high risk bust with high a small chance to hit his ceiling. Reminds me of Benoit Pouliot's career actually

I like Juulsen but does he really have that type of ceiling? We'll find out I guess.

That's the only narrative where I wouldn't be opposed to a Pulj for Juulsen deal. That being said, Pulj has a lot red flags so far in his career.

He impressed me multiple times early last season. I'm not saying he will be a top pair guy. Nor a offensive guy. But a solid number 4 that can be reliable and lay the body.

Puuljujarvi had 9 points in almost 50 games last year. And a snotty attitude

I don’t disagree about Pulju’s shortcomings — he’s got way more than you listed.

If Juulsen can be traded for more than Puljujarvi, then entertain that. I just don’t want to see Juulsen exposed at the expansion draft.

MB can always try to get Puljujarvi for a lesser package. All for it but bottom line, as others have stated — wouldn’t want to overpay.

what do you mean?

I’ve exaggerated for effect. Maybe I should have said highly immature or gravely entitled.

His whole posturing, refusing to go the minors, multiple ultimatums to the team, threatening to play in Europe this season and indicating how he’d prefer to only play with certain teams. I mean, the guy is only an RFA — pay your dues and eventually you’ll have the leverage and freedom to choose as you like.

What are the Finns going to do to help him when McDavid couldn't get him going?

We need real top 6 talent, not a reclamation project. Swing for the fences, stop bunting.
I feel like the analogy is kinda backwards. To me swinging for the fences is getting a recent 4OA pick for 25 cents on the dollar while bunting is holding onto a guy like Juulsen because we're overrating our own prospects.

You are trading for a 3rd liner who never put up 40 points in a season (and that's combining his points made in the AHL + NHL)
He's got 37 points in 139 NHL games.
Hudon got 39 points in 110 NHL games for perspective.

We might think too highly of our prospects, but as your post showed.....you overvalue the fact that he's been drafted 4th overall.
Paying for untapped potential of which we didn't see a glimpse of at the pro level for cheap isn't swinging for the fence either.

Nail Yakupov was traded for a 3rd round pick after 4 seasons in the NHL and did a lot better than Puljujarvi did after 3 seasons.
