What happened to cause that? Resentment over his cheap contract? Hating the pressure? His wife wants to live in the US? PK isn't nice to him? It would look pretty crappy for Habs to deal a captain after one year so I don't think they'd wanna comply. That begs the question, why didn't Patches secretly ask to be exempt from captain voting?

Wouldn't be the first time the Habs did something like that to a Captain. Turgeon, Muller and Keane didn't last long either it seems after being named captain.

No that's true. Habs probably wouldn't want to but if Patches insists, they have to. And they wouldn't want word to get out there because then his value drops. Let's be honest, Patches has great value with that contract. But I'm not so keen to deal him if the return isn't proven talent. How long had it been since the Habs drafted and developed a guy who could score 30-40 regularly? Richer?
