Many many mistakes, a rather underwhelming final. Nina will run away with the gold, despite an imperfection. I was at the Beijing 2008 UBs final... another level really.

VANYYYYYY!!!! :clap::wave::vhappy::towel:

I'm so f***ing happy for her, I mean, first Olympic medal at 30 after rupturing her Achilles' tendon and countless other injuries. She absolutely NAILED her routine, but Carey's exercise was definitely more difficult. I'm very happy for Mai Murakami too. USA, Italy, Japan and Russia, quite a cool podium I'd say :thumbu:

I have to say as a Russia fanboy I have been impressed with how Melnikova has matured.

As I haven't really followed any of the Worlds or Europeans for a few years I just remembered her as a baby-faced 16 year old who I thought was a bit of a liability holding back my beloved Mustafina and her team.

But she has really grown up in every way including in her performances, appearance and the way she carries herself as an experienced gymnast and team leader

With only one more event left to go, my biggest conclusion from these games is that the USA Gymnastics Dynasty is likely over and headed for a rebuild (they won't bottom out like the 97-2000 era USA, but just won't be the favorites)

Not sure if any of these gymnasts are back for 2024. Suni is 19 but her ankles are going on 35.
Chiles is going off to UCLA and I'd bet money she is about to embark on one of the greatest NCAA careers since Kupets; nobody is going to have more fun doing NCAA gym than Jordan Chiles.
I'd say there is maybe a shot Jade Carey comes back and actually gets on the team this time; she can likely still be a very effective specialist plus I don't think she's suffering injury wise like other girls.

We still have the Olympic Gold AA streak which is great, but the worlds + next olympics are gonna be really tough.

The fact that Russia still beats USA in team this games even if you count all of Biles' QS including her 15.4 Amanar replacing her 13.7 is telling that the quality of the Russian gymnasts is very very real.

Russia will be the favorites in 2024 imo.
Urazova and Listunova are likely going to do big things during this next quad and I'm unsure who America's answer to them will be. IMO those 2 are better than any American gymnast staying around or coming up + who knows what other Russians are coming up. Listunova in particular is headed for big things she has such a big personality.
Konnor McClain will be America's next hyped face heading into 2024; hopefully getting Valeri Liukin as her coach will take her to the next level. Still so much can happen and you never know.

While China had a bad games, they will be back. Liang Chow has only been their coordinator for a couple years so there is only so much he could do in that time. They should really see the fruits of his labor by 2024.

GB will be more than just shock bronze winners. 3 more years of Gadirova twins developing will be big for them.

I wouldn't be surprised if Grace McCallum comes back. She has much more difficulty but with her hand surgery in January, she wasn't strong enough to hit them in Tokyo.

I could see Suni come back as well. She's 18 and she could easily just do bars and beam.

Will be interesting to see if Kara Eaker, Leanne Wong and Kayla DiCello all decide to go for Paris.

I think Jade is going to enjoy going to college at Oregon and soak up what comes with her gold medal .

Anyone see McKayla Maroney's IG and Twitter yesterday? She unloaded and blasted Alicia Sacramone without actually naming her. She said that Alicia told her to shut up about Nassar assaulting her and never talk about Larry that way.

It was confirmed in the book Start By Believing that it was Sacramone that yelled at her

I have a feeling we are about to get a second wave of survivors coming out post Tokyo
