I can't believe I put so much work into the following but I'm always curious about ice time distribution amongst defencemen. Tyler Myers got stapled to the bench in the third.

Wal$h is creaming his pants seeing Hronek paired with Hughes in a contract year

Actually I would say it's not great for Hronek at the moment, I think he's too deferential and seems unsure about what to do on offence when they're together.

Looks like we need to onboard Friedman to the PK program

Yeah we need a more defensive guy beside Hughes

Why? Hughes is doing excellent.

Won’t finish top 5.

I have zero faith in voters after last year.

I really don't see Hughes benefiting much, if at all from playing with Hronek over someone more ho-hum and steady defensively. It's just kind of redundant. And also seems to make Hronek play worse than he can.

As for the Hughes Norris talk...at the end of the day, that comes down to team success in large part. If the Canucks are a playoff team with him playing like he has...he'll get consideration. If the Canucks are an afterthought near lottery team again, nobody is going to give anyone awards for doing whatever on a team that sucks and doesn't win anything. Fair or not, that's how it tends to go.

With the obvious exception of Karlsson...who broke records last year. On a bad team. And frankly, shouldn't have won the Norris anyway.

Hughes won’t win because the voters are brain dead morons who vote for the narrative they like best.

They do t like Hughes.

If we win more road games against the eastern teams and Hughes lights it up in those games, they will notice. I mean they are not going to watch west coast games so that’s the only way for them to notice

If the "narrative" is Hughes dragging the Canucks garbage defence kicking and screaming into the playoffs...the voters will like it and vote for him. Maybe not to win, but he'll at least be in the conversation if that's the case.

Crazy that you put someone with a bit of hockey IQ on the top line and Kuzmenko has his best game. Garland puts in a solid effort, but he shouldn't be anywhere near that top line in the future. Ilya might not score at a high rate on his chances, but the fact that they get generated to begin with is a huge step up.

At some point Hughes and Hronek really need to be tried separately. The other pairings are having a really hard time making a pass to anything that isn't the boards and out. I don't mind seeing them put together occasionally as a fourth pairing of sorts to make sure their minutes stay high, but seeing the other pairings struggle so much is rough.

Was great to see someone hold Myers accountable for once. Every other coach has been super afraid to do it for some reason. Either this will light a fire under his ass or we find some waiver wire, replacement level defenseman to replace him (which would be an upgrade on what we've seen so far).

Suter's line has got to put forward some offensive zone time soon. Him and Beau have had a rough start to the season, but need to get it going + produce if this team is going to be respectable on a consistent basis.

Agreed on the Hughes/Hronek points. They just have to run Hughes-Cole, Soucy Hronek, then double-shift Hughes-Hronek a bit and shelter Friedman-Myers for weak 10-13 minutes a game. It's the only way for sustainable defense and possession until they trade Garland+ for a defenseman.
