The Oilers confirm. We like Samuelsson's game but this was strictly a cap move for us.

We wish him luck with the Coyotes

:coyotes acquire forward Mikael Samuelsson from the Edmonton Oilers for a 2011 2nd round pick.

When Mikael became available we jumped at the opportunity to acquire him. He plays an exceptional two-way game, which fits Tip's style, and he's among the best in front of the net on the power play.

Almost as bad as paying Derrick Brassard $3.2 million over the next 4 years when he has 7 goals and 21 assists over 62 games, and you also traded for that contract, you didn't even inherit it :handclap: good on ya. Lehtinen at least brings leadership and defensive awareness.

LOL Did you just compare Derick Brassard to Jere Lehtinen?? :help:
First off two totally different types of players, second off Stars fans can vouch that Lehtinen is well expired as hockey player, 2 million dollars for him to be injured 20/30 games of the season. Derick Brassard is 22 year old, first round draft pick who was absolutely shat on due to Hitchcock's awful approach to dealing with young players. Brassard is a future first line C, if not atleast a great 2nd line C. Getting paid 3.2 M is overpayment, but on a team with a ****-ton of capspace looking to build around some young upcoming players, he fits in pretty well.

You must be greatly confused... Sammy = not a net presence. On odd occasions he will go around the crease but is not elite in any way shape or form. He is a perimeter shooter, not necessarily a bad thing, he just loves to shoot the puck, from anywhere, he is a shoot first then think about pass later.

San Jose signs Toni Lydman- 2 years 1.25 million per.
We feel he will bring a strong defensive presence with Dan Boyle.

Boyle-Lydman
Ranger-White
Blake-Demers

Barring a veteran top 4 wanting to come in at a severe discount, we are happy to go into the season with 5 top 4 d-men and the explosive but young Jason Demers.

Corvo signs with Boston

Boston is pleased to annouce the signing of Joe Corvo. We see Corvo as a partner for Chara. With this signing Boston feel we have put together a great team and will only be looking for depth players from here on out.

We are almost finished rounding out our roster, just waiting to hear back from two more agents, then we will hold a press conference to formally announce our signings. We are willing to package some assets along with Jaroslav Spacek in order to clear his salary.

Barring a surprise offer the Blues are pretty much set. The roster and prospects will be posted later today.

UFA Goaltenders

If you have any interest in a goaltender, here is what is left from FA

Hedberg, Johan
Sabourin, Dany
Lalime, Patrick
Legace, Manny
Budaj, Peter
Auld, Alex
Krahn, Brent
Climie, Matt
Dubielewicz, Wade
Sanford, Curtis
Danis, Yann
Munroe, Scott
Valiquette, Steve
Chiodo, Andy
Backlund, Johan
Toskala, Vesa
MacDonald, Joey
Raycroft, Andrew
Theodore, Jose

All of these goaltenders are capable of either NHL or top notch AHL duties.

Most would prefer remaining in North America, however Toskola, Theodore, Danis, Raycroft and Legacy will go to the KHL tonight unless offered an NHL contract

:habs UPDATE

The Montreal Canadiens are placing defenseman Mathieu Carle on the trade block. In return, we would like a similar C prospect (young AHLer, NHL potential on the 2nd/3rd line, ready to step in this year if needed).

We are still looking at our options via free agency.

The Minnesota Wild have agreed to terms with Ray Emery. We feel Ray will bring us a quality back-up to Josh Harding and will be able to take a decent chunk of games until we stretch Josh into our true number one goaltender. This signing will also give Anton Khudobin some more playing time in Houston before we feel he'll be ready. Ray agreed to a one year, 900K contract.

Minnesota is waiting to hear from one free agent about where they stand, but may be finished and ready to head into the year with this roster:

Patrick Sharp|Mikko Koivu|Fabian Brunnstrom
Gui Latendresse|Lars Eller|Martin Havlat
Cal Clutterbuck|Jon Matsumoto|Kevin Porter
Maxim Lapierre|Kyle Brodziak|Antti Miettinen
Robbie Earl|—|—

Brian Campbell|Marek Zidlicky
Cam Barker|Matt Carle
Greg Zanon|Cam Fowler
Yannick Weber|—

Josh Harding
Ray Emery

Prospect Pool:
Ranking|POS|Player|New Add
1|D|Cam Fowler|Yes
2|C|Nick Bjugstad|Yes
3|D|Marco Scandella|No
4|D|Maxim Noreau|No
5|C|Anders Lee|Yes
6|W|Stefan Legein|Yes
7|D|Tyler Cuma|No
8|W|Max Gardiner|Yes
9|D|Yannick Weber|Yes
10|C|Ivan Telegin|Yes

I feel, all in all, I've improved this team's future and in my opinion, this would likely be a better squad than the current Wild team ices on game by game basis currently. Would love to hear some thoughts of other GM's if you'd like. I know I didn't do so great on some trades, and did better on others. But I think you'll have that.

Sign forward Taylor Pyatt to a 2 year 1.6M dollar contract. Taylor had a great season in Phoenix and he'll slot in on a line with Brian Sutherby and a player TBA.

^^^^^^^^^^

We have one offer for Mathieu Carle at the moment but we will wait until tomorrow morning to see other offers.

We are currently in discussions with 3 UFA forwards. Depending of the guy we sign, we could go after an UFA depth defenseman after.

PM!

BUYOUT

The Montreal Canadiens have bought out the contract of enforcer Georges Laraque. It will cost us 500,000$ over the next 2 years. He is now an unrestricted free agent.

Taylor had an exceptional season in Phoenix. I think Taylor and the emergence of Mikael Samuelsson as a top net-crasher were two of the biggest stories in the NHL this year. :p:

:coyotes sign UFA goaltender Matt Climie to a one year, two-way contract that will pay him $550,000 in the NHL and $125,000 in the AHL.

We're bringing Matt in primarily to get a veteran presence in San Antonio. With Al Montoya returning form injury, and Joel Gistedt still figuring out the NA game, we needed someone who could in to SA and start from day one. We have a number of young goalies in our pipeline, including Mike Lee, but we're not interested in rushing anyone to San Antonio.

We also like Matt's size and believe working with Goalie Coach Sean Burke will help his game. Should Bryz or LaBarbera go down, we like the idea of having Matt available for call up.
