I mean, "We couldn't be happier to add a young veteran Michael to our re-building team.

Mason Raymond

Raymond was the odd man out in Vancouver, losing his place on our starting roster. He's proven to be a PK threat and his speed is always going to be a great attribute but his inability to drive the net or use his linemates meant he had to go. We've gained 2 more great prospects to our pool that now includes Jensen, Schroeder, Tanev, Lack, McCabe, McRae, Kubalik, Savard, Connauton and Rodin. Going to be a bright future in Vancouver.

Confirm. We feel like Raymond-Johansson-D'Agostini will be a tremendous, young 3rd line and we are very happy to acquire Mason.

With our signing of Zanon our lineup is complete.

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Clowe-Hodgson-Kesler
Higgins-Helm-Hansen
Downie-Lapierre-Dorsett

Edler-Murray
Hamhuis-Bieksa
Zanon-Tanev
Rome

Luongo
Lack

While we had intentions of a major re-tooling, we felt the massive overpayments through FA simply were not feasible, and the trademarket was quiet. We've acquired gritty young players in Dorsett, Helm and Downie, and grabbed a great defensive veteran in Greg Zanon, who will serve as a mentor for the NHL-ready Chris Tanev on our 3rd pairing. Hodgson has moved into our 2nd line C role, freeing up Kesler to play a more offensive role.

Brought in some great prospects, and fresh new faces to take on the upcoming season.

ROSTER

Ryan Malone - Steve Stamkos - Martin St. Louis
Kristian Huselius- Vincent Lecavalier - Ruslan Fedotenko
Dana Tyrell - Manny Malhotra - Jamie Langenbrunner
Ryan Shannon - Gilbert Brulé- Daniel Paille
Tom Pyatt
Nate Thompson

Victor Hedman - Mattias Ohlund
Fedor Tyutin- Eric Brewer
Chris Campoli - Mark Barberio
Radek Gudas

Cam Ward
Mike Smith

We've added our franchise goaltender as well as a very capable backup, and added a couple of key parts to our defence in the form of Fedor Tyutin and Chris Campoli to give us a solid top 6. We've lost some grit with trading Downie, but we've augmented our top 6 by adding Huselius and Fedotenko provided they can both stay healthy.

We feel this is a team that will contend for a Stanley Cup.

Still some offers on the table for UFAs, wait a couple days!

Just sign him over to me! Nobody else remembered him or offered him a contract! :D

EDIT: and with a hockey-less weekend, I wouldn't mind an expedited sign-up for #5.

Sign Barrett Jackman to a 1yr 3mil deal and Dominic Moore to a 1yr 1mil deal. We were upset that we couldn't get some of the UFAs we went after but are still satisfied with our team. Our roster now looks like:

Marcus Johansson-Matt Duchene-Shane Doan
Mike Cammalleri-David Backes-Jarome Iginla
Mason Raymond-Andy McDonald-Matt D'Agostini
B.J. Crombeen-Vladimir Sobotka-Ryan Reaves

Toni Lydman-Mike Green
Barret Jackman-Kevin Shattenkirk
Kris Russell-Alex Pietrangelo

Yeah but Pietrangelo is my best defensive, RD, and Russell is my worst defensive, LD, so I paired them together.

The rumors are true. The Edmonton Oilers have traded their captain.

[fieldset=TRADE: BLUE JACKETS - OILERS]
:cbj
C - Shawn Horcoff

:edmonton
G - Anton Forsberg
RW - Jake Hansen
Conditional Pick 2014 (If Horcoff plays in 50 or more games, EDM receives CBJ 2nd 2014. If not, EDM receives CBJ 3rd 2014)

[/fieldset]

After 3 seasons of futility, the last where GM Steve Tambellini was replaced half-way through the season, the Edmonton Oilers have decided to part ways with their captain.

"We needed a new direction. We feel with Horcoff the locker room had become complacent, simply shrugging their shoulders and accepting defeat. That's not the atmosphere we want our young guys growing up in." In moving Horcoff we opened up $5.500M in capspace over the next 3 years and stick to the mantra of paying the elite players and finding depth player bargains, IE: Chris Kelly.

With Horcoff's departure, the Oilers have named Ryan Smyth captain, as well as appointing Ryan Suter, Ryan Whitney, Taylor Hall, and Ladislav Smid assistant captains. Suter and Hall will wear the "A"s at home, and Whitney and Smid will don them on the road.

Final roster as follows.

Taylor Hall - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Jordan Eberle
Ryan Smyth - Olli Jokinen - Magnus Paajarvi
Justin Abdelkader - Chris Kelly - Ryan Jones
Jordin Tootoo - Eric Belanger - Ben Eager

Ryan Suter - Jeff Petry
Ladislav Smid - Tom Gilbert
Ryan Whitney - Brandon Gormley
Cam Barker - Corey Potter

Brian Elliot
Nikolai Khabibulin
Devan Dubnyk
