The Florida Panthers and Washington Capitals have agreed to a trade:

The Panthers have sent Stephen Weiss, Bryan Allen and Marty Reasoner to Washington in exchange for Semyon Varlamov, David Steckel, Tom Poti, Cody Eakin and the Capitals 1st rnd pick

Our feelings on the players coming to Florida:

Varlamov: We feel Varly and Jacob Markstrom will give us one of the best young goaltending tandems in hockey. We now will look to move Vokoun ASAP.

Steckel and Poti give us solid depth at forward and defense.

Eakin will be a solid player and will likely push for a spot in camp

The 1st rnd pick could be used to pick up an additional roster player

The Washington Capitals have made a blockbuster deal with the Florida Panthers. Coming to Washington are Stephen Weiss, Marty Reasoner and Bryan Allen. The Panthers receive Seymon Varlamov, Dave Steckel, Tom Poti, Cody Eakin and Washington's 2011 1st round pick.

"We gave up some good pieces to acquire these players, but it was a move that we felt was necessary in order to bolster our team. Stephen and Marty will be relied on to contribute up front, while Bryan will be tasked with shutting down other teams top lines."

Looking to package one of our current centers, and a few prospects to land a top line center. We are also looking to improve our D. All prospects and picks are available.

Cant believe the Blues/Avs trade

Blues won that IMO ,, Both GM's have some balls with that

This is a deal that HF will look back on in 5 years that could be point that changed the future of these franchises

To Edmonton:
Calvin De Haan
Casey Cizikas
NYI 1st round pick

To New York Islanders:

Ales Hemsky

"We understand the talent we gave up to acquire Ales Hemsky but we think he's one of the most skilled wingers in all of the NHL. We wanted to get a top-line winger to play with Tavares and Hemsky's play-making style fits perfectly. With Grabner, Tavares, Hemsky, Okposo and many other talent forwards the Islanders forward core is looking pretty good."

The Oilers approve.

Many teams came with tempting offers, but the opportunity at a potential top 5 or top 10 pick couple with a couple nice prospects made the difference.

The Oilers are now looking to trade Dustin Penner (who already has some interest), Jim Vandermeer (UFA for cheapish), Kurtis Foster (cheapish player), Andrew Cogliano (likely in a package), Ladislav Smid (likely in a package), Taylor Chorney (likely in package), Ryan Jones (big maybe based on his success this year).

Also still looking for a Future #1 Center and #1 Defenceman (MPS, Omark, EDM 1st in 2011, NYI 1st in 2011 could all be available in the right deal, but those are likely off-season moves).
