As they stand, and I understand it is a really unique circumstance.. and different from the Blackhawks at the deadline and shelving Kane until the playoffs, or even what Tampa tried with Stamkos last year.. but even if it isn't a rule doesn't mean another shouldn't be put in place to prevent it in the future.. thats what learning experiences are for. Not mad at Kuch or the Lightning for playing within the rules.. but believe it shouldn't happen again.It's the rules.
There has to be a lot of things to consider for it to ever happen again because losing a best player for a year and still making playoffs isn't ideal or practical, but in the event that it does happen again.. something should be in place for it. The major head scratcher for me was the Tyler Johnson waiver move and then Kuch's surgery and all of it together.. the guy had surgery, there is no arguing that.. but they were in cap trouble, and got/or made a break. Within the rules.. sure.. But...
