It's the last game of the regular season for our Devils. But there are some burning question that still need to be answered.

Who will we be playing when the playoffs start?

Will Jack add to his season record point total?

Could Jack hit 100 points?

Will Lindy play 11f 7d when the playoffs start?

Will Blackwood start tonight?

Will Luke play tonight?

How many people forgot Jonathan Bernier is still part of the team?

Almost all these questions and more will be answered tonight.

It also time to celebrate a great regular season for our Devils!

PREVIEW

DEVILS (51-21-8) vs. CAPITALS (35-37-9)
TV:
7:00 p.m. ET; Televised on MSGSN
RADIO: 7:00 p.m. ET; Live on Devils Hockey Network
Head-to-Head:
The Devils and Capitals face off for the final time this season. New Jersey has won two of the previous three meetings, including a 3-2 shootout win at Washington on March 9.
Dawson Mercer leads the Devils in scoring with four points (1g-3a) while Jack Hughes has three goals. Dylan Strome has a team-best four points (1g-3a) against New Jersey this year for Washington.

Devils Team Scope:
The Devils are fighting for the top spot in the Metro Division, trailing Carolina by one point. New Jersey holds the No. 2 spot and will have home-ice advantage in the First Round regardless.
Center Jack Hughes leads the club with 43 goals and 97 points - breaking Patrik Elias' record (96, 2000-01) for the single season franchise record. He has a seven-game point streak for 11 (3g-8a). Defenseman Dougie Hamilton has set career highs offensively with 21 goals, 52 assists and 73 points.
Forward Timo Meier scored twice against the Blue Jackets, giving him 40 goals on the year (his first 40-goal campaign). He has nine goals and 14 points in 20 games since being acquired by San Jose. Hughes (42), Meier (40), Jesper Bratt (32) and Nico Hischier (31) give the Devils four 30-plus goal men.
Goaltender Vitek Vanecek posted a career-best 33 wins with a 2.45 goals-against average and .911 save percentage.

Capitals Team Scope:
The Capitals will miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2013-14 season. Much of the issue this year has been injuries, which have decimated the club.
At various points of the year Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Tom Wilson, T.J. Oshie, John Carlson and Anthony Mantha have all missed time.
They recently broke a six-game winless streak against the New York Islanders but followed that by losing to Boston.
Ovechkin led the team in scoring with 42 goals and 74 points. Dylan Strome, in his first season with the Capitals, set career highs in goals (23), assists (41) and points (64).
By the Numbers:
New Jersey tied a franchise record (2008-09) with 51 wins this season and a chance to break it.
The Devils tied an NHL record for the biggest point improvement from one season to the next (+47). And they have a chance to break it.
Injuries:
Devils

Lazar (lower-body, day-to-day)
Bernier (hip, LTIR)
Capitals
Hagelin (hip)
Brown (knee)
Dowd (undisclosed)
Oshie (upper-body)
Van Riemsdyk (upper-body)
Mantha (lower-body)

Wait...Ovy and Oshie are out?

I admit I do not pay much (if any) attention to any other team out there unless they are our opponents but that's big if they're out.

To a successful end of the season; win the division if you can, prep for the playoffs because you must, but most of all have a round before the insanity begins next week.

According to Novo's article from after the last game, we are tied for the single largest.

I do think the “82 game” caveat is a bit of sleight of hand. The Sharks turnaround in the early 90s of 58 points will be the biggest swing to me; the early 90s is still a modern era of hockey so I’d lump these all together.

That's fair, yeah. It being an 84 game season seems to be why it's being left off, but it's still such a significant swing that 2 additional games wouldn't have mattered.

Still, incredible accomplishment nonetheless.
