I actually think prime Malkin would have been really good at it. His anticipation and reach would have been Lemieux-like on the pk.

but yeah no reason to do it now. Too old, too banged up.

He was very good at it. Played it a lot under Therrien early on.

I don't remember them using him a ton there, but you might be right.

I do recall that Malkin had a reputation as being a very good defensive player coming out of Russia. And I actually think that his defensive play in the 09 cup win vs Detroit was insanely good. especially in game 7, he was a takeaway and backchecking machine.

When he wanted to play defense, he was Datsyukian at it.

Pens entry on the PP has never looked smooth to me. Just never really understood the way they try to enter to zone.

Grits might/might not be the right term for ZAR. But he was physical.13th in the league in hits with 22 just minutes in penalties might not be "sandpaper" grit...but it's grit as in determination.

I don't think I ever noticed a ZAR hit. Maybe one? A very vanilla player.
