Edler really struggled in this one, that's something this team is going to have a hard time overcoming.

Hutton has been a train wreck in most of the Canuck action I've seen this season.

You're not allowed to talk about huttons terrible play on here.

Been the worst defensmen we have this year.

Which is saying a lot, because despite his errors I've been happy with Hutton thus far

Can't you say that about pretty much any player? D-men, especially. Ignore a D-man's mistakes and there's a lot to like.

To put it bluntly, his linemates suck so that line didn't play much.

Pretty much.

Sutter's line is our best one right now so it's not a surprise that Horvat is getting 3rd line minutes. Doesn't help that Horvat is struggling on face-offs.

A sophomore defenceman, sure. He hasn't been as bad as some are making him out to be, though.

Sophomore Dman expected to face 2nd lines (Jeff Carter, Stastny, Kes) while acclimating to a brand new D partner who has the puck moving skills of Willie Mitchell.

This board needs a chill pill; they're 4-1-1 in their first 6 and looked alright doing so. Not just that, but they were pretty much in the game until the 3rd. It wasn't pretty, but it wasn't a blowout like last year either.

People have been spoiled about the high offensive years of the peak Sedins but now that's over. This is a mid-pack/bubble team that'll lean heavily on defense and goaltending until there are better forwards. It's why Willie's rolling 4 lines like a dunce. This team is back to where it was in 07-08.

I'm not too sure what people are expecting and tanking isn't an option. The positive is that if they do get into the playoffs, there's a chance Markstrom could get hot and they'll ride him as far as they can.

He's not saying ignore the errors but rather he so likes him with the errors included. Hutton has the best possession numbers this season, the only one over 50% (50.3) at ES, Gudbranson is down around 49.6%. Larsen 46, Edler 41 and Tanev 45, Sbisa also 45. Hutton has not been the worst, mistakes and all. Those match up with most people's visuals. Tanev jumps to the top once you add shot blocking ie Fenwick.

Fowards Sedins, Erikson Hansen 48%, Sutter 46%. Granlund leading at 50.6%.

Defensively Sutter and Edler are the worst in terms of shots against per 60 at between 64-65. Gudbranson is 46, Tanev 54 (but best Fenwick against at 34.7) and Hutton 49.5. Bo is doing well defensively (48) but his lines are not generating enough at ES (39).

Hutton will often "look like" he's the worst when he has an off-night because he's one of the few D-men who is actually capable of trying high-risk plays. Every once in awhile some of those high-risk plays won't work and people will wonder why he sucks, but you need at least ONE D-men who tries those kinds of plays and doesn't just put it off the glass and out every time.

Someone like Gudbranson who never tries anything high risk will always look "solid" by contrast because he plays it so safe.

You've a right to an opinion... even if it's a terrible opinion.

Name one other defender we have that actually has enough poise to skate his way out of a tough situation into a positive/attacking situation.

Also...... have you been watching Sbisa out there? Or do you only say 'worst defenseman we have this year' to get a rise out of people?

Let's hope is the final statement you have surmised is a possibility above, because if he actually thinks what he says, it's a pretty damning indictment on his overall understanding of the game.

Seems to me that Hutton may have been given the greenlight to try more offensive minded plays and he has been going for it. That's why he's looked awful at times but the only reason he is able to gamble, and the reason why he has been given the go signal is because of his partner Erik Gudbranson holding down the fort.

They compliment each other. I called this from the minute Gudbranson became a canuck. Hopefully we start seeing some fruits from Hutton before too long.

I don't see it that way at all. He hasn't really been burned by offensive gambles.

He's just had a rough time with in-zone defense, mainly handling one-on-one situations. Doesn't really have anything to do with the risk factor in his game.
