Funny, it made me remember when all Canucks games started at 7:30. This allowed for people to finish dinner and have company over for the game.
As for the slow start, I think that last loss to the Canes is the reason why.
The Canucks were becoming notorious for letting the first shot of the game go in right away. By turtling we are allowing the opposition to come at us hard from the start. We then go back at them in 2nd but by the time the third comes around, the opposition is bagged for wasting all their energy in the first and dealing with us in the second.
We've become worried about letting that first goal in, especially too early, and that's a good thing. We've been notorious in the 3rd, but as that Detroit game showed, this strategy turns that around.
This is opposite of Vigneault's strategy to get that first goal right away, then turtle in the 2nd, and then hit them hard (with new line changes if necessary) in third, based on the position of the benches. He didn't want to get too far away from them in case of a penalties.
