If it's the truth, it's very smart of them. Get the infected away from the rest as early as possible and keep them away until there is no chance of spreading it.

my (un)educated guess is they're hiding an abdominal/back issue. He looked like he was playing through some pain the past few months.

This sure seems convenient. The team has shown it really doesn’t want to put someone on waivers. This buys some extra time.

Injured reserve does the same thing though. VGK just doesn't want to disclose the nature of any injury (even concussions).
