With the projected cap space we can afford a goalie for less than 5M and that's without keeping Saad. If Gru wants 6M+ that's an issue...not a huge one but an issue regardless.

BTW both Binnington and Markstrom signed for 6X6.

I think it’s not a bad idea to keep a few things in mind. The Avs have bought low on goalies in the past and poached guys from other teams. If the front office was doing this when our defense was awful, imagine how tempting it might be to do the same now that our defense has been upgraded significantly.

When the defense plays like what we’re seeing now, the goalie might be getting a lot of non threatening shots that are easy to read. I can’t say Grubauer didn’t do a good job today but it’s probably also true that a lot of NHL caliber goalies might have had a shut out today. If the front office is thinking along these lines, they may be interested in having two decent goalies instead of one high end guy. For what Grubauer is demanding you could maybe have 2 sufficient goalies. The trick is finding them but this has been something the scouts have been exceptional at.


Another possibility is they may already know what he will cost and are comfortable with it.

Interestingly, despite dominating possession and chances the Avs have only had 10 power plays in the last 5 games.

Maybe teams have just stopped reaching and are suffering the consequences for that in the even strength goal department, or they’re just not getting calls.

Miska is probably in the top 1% of ice hockey goalies in the world which is a huge accomplishment. No reason to bath him. He was put in a situation he should have never been in.

Social media is putting so much more pressure on athletes these days. And in the end very few can live without it.

In the 80s if you sucked you could read it on the newspaper, hear it on the radio and maybe someone who recognizes you on the street shouts at you. Nowdays, you suck and you get 10k hate messages on your IG private messages, get tagged on every social media, you are on memes and whatnot. It's a different world.

That said, they are being paid handsomely for it so need to remember that. Occupational hazards I guess.

I missed the 1st where everyone said he was really bad. I didn’t see much in the 2nd and 3rd from him other than a missed pass to Bellemare’s feet

Only forward on the team with zero shots. Natural stat trick says he lost 3/4 draws and the only thing on his stat line was “one hit” near the end of a blowout game.
