He’s a 2 way center, you know this right? It’s very hard to play against him, and he produces in the 50-60 point range. He’s a career +191 player for Christ sake... hes worth every penny of his contract. Salaries are on the rise in the NHL. We can always buy him out/trade him in the future but I don’t see him declining fast, he’s a guy that will decline slowly. 24 points in 30 games this season on a horrible team. And he speaks perfect French so it’s an easy sell to the French media.
Gomez had the same reputation- hard to play against, 50-60 point guy, Cup winner

Not once upon a time. In his prime Gomez was a great player and landed a huge contract that Gainey took on. Other than his leadership, Toews and Gomez in their primes were very comparable
I think Toews is a better goal scorer, sitting at 13 right now. He’s also a much stronger player and is also harder to play against. And Gomez won because of defense, Goaltending and the trap.

It’s impossible to compare the 2 unless Toews falls off of a cliff like Gomez did.
24 points in 30 right now, Toews is on fire. Think about the Montreal effect as well and what that can potentially do for a guy like him.

Anybody know who's siting on D and what the D pairings will be?

Is Price in net?

Stop. The comparison is awful.

The difference being that Gomez had 59 points with us his first year and Toews hasn't hit that number since 14-15? Or that Gomez was under 30 when we traded for him? Or that Toews has an even bigger contract than the albatross Gomez had?

Age 30 with with his numbers trending down and with a giant contract is not the time to pay all of best assets for a player. This is exactly why LA and the Hawks suck right now, overpaying for past performance. The worst part is we can't even say "well, at least we got multiple cups out of it".

We won't reach a middle ground so let's agree to disagree on this one

Toews is still performing at an elite level and has never stopped. The team around him hasn’t been as good, this is a team game after all. They can turn this around and still win more cups, it’s possible.

We can’t compare Toews to Gomez unless Toews falls off of a cliff. He has 13 goals in 24 games and isn’t showing any signs of becoming a Gomez.

French or English, Crawford stats against the Habs are impressive in any languages.

8-1-2 (1 SO)
1.54 GAA, 95,3 SV PCT

Only team against which he has more success is the Penguins
8-1-0
1.52 GAA 95,2 SV PCT

You bring up great points but Gomez dropped fast and I hope for Chicago’s sake that Toews has several more good years.

Yes but Crawford is not the same player he was before his concussion
