It is absurd that after next Sunday we will not meet them again until next year unless they meet in the playoffs.

Do you mean at The Belle Centre? Because we play them again at home on Feb. 12.

Cities have rivalries. Players, eh, not so much. Sure, they may get caught up in the Boston/Montreal, Boston/NY (baseball)rivalry while playing here, but they're, for the most part, from somewhere else and here to make a living. Fans, OTOH, have a different view which lingers long before and after the player has joined or left the organization.

I disagree. That 2011 team hated Montreal as much as the Cam Neely and Bobby Orr teams hated Montreal. Part of that was the historic rivalry, part was polar opposites of styles/identities, part was familiarity breeding contempt, but it was real hatred.

Then they redid the scheduling where you only play your division 4 times.

What the NHL wants! A more casual product for the casual fan!!!

The Boston Bruins won't have ailing center Patrice Bergeron for road games Tuesday at Montreal and Wednesday at Ottawa.

Bergeron won't make the trip with the team due to a lower-body injury, coach Bruce Cassidy said Monday.

"No timeline on it," Cassidy told reporters. "Just want to make sure that when he's in the lineup he's not gonna put himself at further risk. Medical staff will keep on top of it and go from there."

Bergeron missed two games earlier this month with a lower-body injury. Cassidy said Bergeron's latest injury is in the same area as the first one.

With Bergy out for at least this game and the next one, and unfortunately probably a few more yet, whether consecutively or not, the Bruins need to sort out some more solid, consistent lineups for when he's in and when he's not. 'In' is reasonably straightforward, with the normal 1st and 4th lines, then DeBrusk-Krejci-?? (prob Ritichie or Kuhlman for now when fit) and Bjork-Coyle-Heinen.

'Out' is the tougher prospect. Obviously Krej moves up to the 1st, and the 4th should stay as it is. They went with DeBrusk-Coyle-Heinen for the 2nd line in practice and I quite like that as Coyle has something going with both of those wingers and it's a sustainable line that should be able to come together and quickly find some chemistry whenever it's required. Cassidy has said that Lindholm is playing in Montreal. He practised as 4C but I'd be really surprised if they stuck with that as it puts Kuraly on the 3rd line where he really doesn't belong, especially with his current patchy form, and breaks up the 4th's long-standing combo.

Both Bjork and Gaunce are LWs, and so is Lindholm should he ever play as a winger. Studnicka of course is a center and it's always been said that the Bruins management would be reluctant to play him as a winger, but he would be a RW if he did. So do they just suck it up and go with Bjork-Lindholm-Studnicka on the 3rd line? I think they should and I suspect they might.

Lindholm's a limited player but he's reliable in that he'll come in and play a responsible game at both ends and be sound defensively. Having him as the regular backup 3C for when Bergy's out maybe isn't ideal but it should continue to work ok and sticking with it if required will allow him and Bjork to get more used to playing with each other. That will at least give some solidity to the line while the RW probably changes between Ritchie, Seny, Stud, Frederic and whoever else gets a go there, or when Ritchie and/or Kuhlman are healthy you make a decision on whether they are a better fit on the 2nd line, in which case Heinen stays on the 3rd, or the other way around.

All of which makes you appreciate, if a reminder were ever needed, just how much an additional scoring winger, most probably a right shot, is required! If they can also play some time at center that would be an admittedly unlikely bonus.
