I’m still curious why Schmaltz didn’t get an AHL stint. Still our worst player

His benching took Soderberg and Garland off the ice more, they were actually generating offense. He's a problem and its only been two games.

Schmaltz had the worst SF% of anyone on the ice 5v5.

Thought Keller played one of his better all-around games. Backchecking like crazy, diving to break up plays, confident with the puck, bodying guys up on the boards. His overall development is vital to this franchise and it looks promising with Kessel in town.

On another note, time to see what hayton can add to the team next game. Hopefully they won't Strome him and keep him on the 4th line. Bump him up to 2C and see what happens.

I am disappointed but thought the team played well.

Keller was pushed around every shift.

Better games from Fish and Hinostroza.

Phil looked like he was pouting a couple shifts there.

Crouse is our only physical player out there.

Noticed a lot of off-hand shot opportunities ruined when guys collecting puck had to reach back across themselves to get it, guys playing off wing, ruined chances for wristers or slap shots and killed plays

Disappointing loss after playing such a good game overall.
Yeah, overall not much to complain about. Schmaltz and Soderberg still MIA. Good to see Fischer play better. Vinnie is becoming a turnover machine, and is bringing down Richardson and Grabner. Kessel has been outstanding and is putting that first line on his shoulders.

Ownership, management, coaching and players change. Same old sad sack power play. Boggles my mind how this never changes. Especially with how good they can be on the kill.

Alex Meruelo was at the red carpet earlier and mentioned his “Sure as $?!@“ line thing and then said “I don’t give a damn I want to win!!”

Well, so far we're not obliging him.

I'm finally ready to admit we lost the Schmaltz trade.

The only difference I can see in the team is Kessel. Whenever he's on the ice, it's thrilling. When he's not on the ice, it seems very familiar and very tired.

We're not getting anywhere near the playoffs like this.

As it has been for a while, it seems like it's the difference between hoping the puck goes in (somehow), and making the puck go in...

I really liked Kessel tonight. And Keller. And Chychrun. And many others.

OEL needs to get the idea that we don’t have to suck through his head and play like he plays when there’s something at stake.

Goligoski can get lost. Immediately.

Schmaltz. Damn. Damn. He’s so soft and lazy and shitty looking out there. He’s like Peter Mueller after his seventh concussion. He better wake the f*** up. It’s not just that he isn’t scoring. It’s that he’s so bad. So so so bad.

Basically the everyone else im happy with.

I wish Tocchet had the balls to scratch Schmaltz and dress Hayton. That’s the obvious move here. That’s the unemotional unbiased move that should be made.

Eh, it's two games in.

On the plus side, they tried to neutralize Keller with physicality like Anaheim did, and Keller pushed through it and stayed engaged and battled -- that was absent all last year.

Chychrun looks sharp.

Fischer and Garland pulled their heads out of their respective asses and showed up to play.

Keumper looks like we can lean on him a bit again this year.

Crouse might actually be a middle-six guy, and not just a third liner.

Grabner still looks disruptive.

Demers and Stepan actually look like they care so far.

We haven't bled goals and chances like crazy, which would be more concerning.

The offense being stale and the PP being putrid aren't exactly shocking based on history. The rest of the negatives we've alreadyhammered on in the thread.

Yeah, I’m not feeling too negative. They have played great. They haven’t scored or won. It sucks but they’re doing good things.

Schmaltz should go to Tucson for a one game conditioning stint. Hayton should play.

Chychrun should slap the shit out of OEL and get him wokenthef*** up. Just one good sllllaaaaap.

I’ve still have to watch the replay but just from listening to Heeter’s call on the radio and following along on social media you’re spot on rt.

(Good Lord..... imagine that!!).

Like Stepan’s post game. Like his start to the year. All the signs are there. I’m believing in him. I think he’s finally bought back in and starting to play like the New York Ranger we were all so glad to acquire.

Goligoski....yeah...no....

He actually seems faster. Almost like those couple years Doan cut some weight around the 2nd lockout and resurged a bit.

I'm mostly annoyed we got shut out in the home opener two years in a row. You can't pack the place and give them nothing. Unfortunately that's as long term a Coyotesism as is bad PPs.

Everyone channeling their internal David Moss

Dave moss could at least score off his ass at extremely inopportune times.

I think Garland is putting forth good effort, but it’s not the smartest play. He got some chances because he keeps his motor going, but as soon as he’s pressured he almost always defaults to throwing it on net. While it’s not always a bad idea, some of those shots were so low in chance and unlikely to produce a rebound that he essentially ended the possession for his line. It’s hard to fault him a ton for it though as in years past the team was notorious for giving up every chance for a shot by making a pass, but I don’t expect much out of him unless he can develop past just shooting at the first sign of danger.

The only player I’m upset with so far is Schmaltz. He just doesn’t look good in any aspect of his game. He should’ve really spent time in Tucson for conditioning

Kessel - Step - Keller look like a legit top line.

Defense played great. No complaints about anyone.

Kuemper is looking like the real deal. Too bad he can’t score us any goals

I’m upset with

I'm not really upset as such but no one except for Stepan seems to be upping their game really. Kessel is doing exactly what we figured, mostly positive with some lackadaisical efforts at times. There was one on the PP where he was back behind our net and he like forgot for 3 seconds that oh shit I gotta move the puck before the PK comes here better do that now.

Keller does seem to be more engaged but he's still chucking weak pucks from the far side of the circle to no effect.

Who is stepping up and saying I'm gonna get us a tying goal? Basically Grabner going for breakaways is about all that type of effort I've seen. Lots of good on paper play, even forechecking. But no one besides the top line looks remotely dangerous and that includes the D which SHOULD be involved in the scoring on this team with our personnel. All the shots in the world whether to use the SIlverman graphic, like last year from outside or more inside like this year, ain't gonna do shit if you don't have more net traffic or shoot somewhere other than the damn chest protector.

Like midway through the 3rd I'd have normally been pissed cause Dvorak blasted a shot way over the top and out of the zone from a pretty good position but I wasn't cause I was thinking well damn at least he's shooting to score even the execution is way off.

Kessel - Step - Keller look like a legit top line.

I expected it to be more a liability than it has so far. Having the puck does good things or at least prevents bad things.

One goal against Gibson, none against Halak. I still see the makings of a good team here. They need to go out and get a power play specialist. A real one. They had trouble getting out of their own end today, let alone crossing the blue line.

Passing isn't crisp. I can't remember how many ruses tonight had the rushing forward pulling the puck out of is skates due to a meh pass.

Defensive coverage was fantastic. We are able to suffocate a team as skilled as the Bruins, and that says something.

Kuemper doesn't disappoint. He is clearly an NHL starting goalie.
