Team has lost its confidence and swagger from earlier in the season. Habs need to win their next 4 games to get back in this, but I'm expecting another lame performance vs Ottawa tonight.

It's impressive how people react to backups the same way everytime.

Budaj was great at the start then people trashed him.
Tokarski was a future starter worth at least a 1st round pick and then people trashed him.
Condon was great at the start then people trashed him.
Montoya was great at the start then people trashed him.
Niemi was great at the start then people trashed him.
Lindgren was great at the start then people trashed him.

Allen was great at the start then...

Price is far from stellar and like you say, Allen will come back down to earth.

Maybe it's time we stop putting so much money in goalies and use it elsewhere where it's more needed nowadays.

We'll see in 2026 what happens.

At that point, Allen would be gone and Primeau would be the backup or starter. McNiven would most likely be let go or traded (depending how good he is at that point). Dichow and Dobes would have been rolling in the AHL for 1-4 years.

This is the series of games this week that will define this season. Going to shits or making a run?

Getting the coach canned or not?

I agree. The next 7 games we play Winnipeg 4x and Ottawa 3x. Critical that we put distance between ourselves and Winnipeg.

Wonder if it's time to make some moves on D.

Romanov - Weber
Kulak - Petry
Chiarot - Edmundson

I know. Petry and Edmundson shouldn't be separated but Petry and Kulak always play well together.
Romanov isn’t ready for 1st pair role, he’s struggling which is expected... doing so would only set up a young player to lose confidence & fail....there is no internal solution needs to come from outside via trade. Ekholm would provide that bridge in time for Romanov to keep developing.

I disagree. The kid can handle and even thrive playing 18 to 20 minutes with Weber.

Difference is Allen is a legit backup. Although history might repeat, he's by far the best goalie on that list and that's a safe assumption to make well before he played a game for the Habs.

I agree with that.

However, like many of the other backups before him, he is being overhyped with a small sample set and will most likely be trashed as soon as he has a few bad games.

It feels different with Allen. Those other guys had promising starts, but you could see the flaws in their play. Allen really looks solid and steady. We'll find out soon enough, he'll be playing a lot from now on.

Ottawa is not a team we can beat, it's a team we should and absolutely have to beat. Losing tonight would be a huge step back.

I've heard that so many time since 2011.

Part of our fanbase will turn on him, like they turn on every other shiny new toy they overhype.
