2022 Cup to Calgary
Playing against a well oiled machine like the Lightning makes me question what kind of team we strive to be. We're stuck in an awkward limbo where we want to play fast via our Dmen but we have an excess of lumbering, big-bodied forwards that struggle to move the puck up but are strong on the cycle and wouldn't look out of place on the mid-to-late 2000s Flames.

I guess it comes down to our future acquisitions but our defense doesn't really complement any line very well except for our first line. I hope the rumours about Zuccarello are true because I'll pull my hair out if we're sniffing around guys like Staal

You're not wrong. But in this game I just think it's a matter of our defensemen playing too nervous. They've hung back on obvious pinches in both the neutral and offensive zone and they've had pretty lost coverage on virtually every goal.

What I do find encouraging is our youngest player in the game has arguably been our best.

The way this team works is a sight to behold. Whenever there's an extended break of any kind, the team looks truly ridiculous. It's takes them eons to get their act together

This is the one consistent with this team every year. And you never how long it will take to snap out of it.

A good blow out would be the best thing that could happen to this team. Same old story, young guns get overconfident, half *** efforts and we slide until they get embarrassed.

Tampa is also in year 2 or 3 with this core (3 with Point) and have been a top team for a while (made the finals 4 years ago) whereas this is the first year the Flames have all been together (Lindy, Hanifin, Hamonic, Neal, Janko, 4th line, 3rd d-pairing all relatively new to the core). A few stumbles along the way is to be expected.

Problem is Gio is old AF, and Brodie and Hammer only have a year (or 2?) left.
I think we need to make a move to shore up our centre depth. Jankowski and Ryan are ok but the two of them are redundant despite being different players, and neither is currently good enough to consistently be a third line center.

It's a meme at this point but it would be found money if Bennett took off as a middle 6 center and we packaged something for a 3rd line scoring winger

He literally pulled out the blender this period.

I’m probably not gonna watch the rest of this game. It’s frustrating watching the Flames just get picked apart at will, even if Tampa is a sight to behold.

No, Peters tried quite a few things, I think I saw

Gaudreau-Monahan-Bennett
Tkachuk-Backlund-Lindholm
Mangiapane-Jankowski-Neal
Frolik-Ryan-Hathaway

Gio-Brodie
Kylington-Hamonic
Hanifin-Andersson

as the lineup

Frustrating thing too, is we had a fairly comfortable lead in the west. We blink and teams are on our ass like we lost 10 in a row. Mainly San Jose.

I agree. I wanna see
Gaudreau-Monahan-Neal
Tkachuk-Backlund-Lindholm

I dont care, mix them up. Sit somebody, Frolik, Mangipane, Ryan, Jank, Neal, Bennett, Andersson....plenty of candidate, wake them up...they are getting too comfortable.
