It would be absolutely Pejorative Slured to cut plekanec and keep desharnais.

One of the worst moves we could make.

Who do you guys want if we lose out on Vrbata?

I would target:
Setoguchi
Kulemin
Booth
Taylor Pyatt
David Moss

pretty slim pickings tbh...would almost rather do a trade

Downie @ 1yr/1Million would have been great...

similar (slightly higher) offer for Moss, or a considerably larger offer for Kulemin would also be ok

To clear something up, I'm not saying Galchenyuk would replace Plekanec. Eller would take his role and Malhotra can take some tough minutes

I've been saying this for the last 3 months now

Dd contract unmovable ATM
PlEks would bring back most value

Give seller poems old job.. Give galchenyuk sellers old job

I think bergevin will only get to work on this NEXT off season tho

depends...

Obviously our team is much better down the middle with Pleks-Galch-Eller than with DD-Galch-Eller...

but Plekanec should have considerably more trade value, so the equation has to factor in what we'd be adding by moving pleks, vs what we'd be adding (or have to throw in) to move DD.

Just speculation by a guy.

Bergevin understands the sport of hockey. He won't deal Plekanec before Desharnais.

Nah. I don't see why you people are obsessing over Desharnais. He'd make quite a fine 2C if Galchenyuk earns the 1C position. In the meanwhile, it's nice to have an offensive C in the way of Chuckie.

If Chuckie proves he can outplay Desharnais in his own field, he'll have 1C

Desharnais barely succeeds with soft minutes.. O zone starts and top wingers on the team..

We can't have two soft minute centers while galchenyuk develops at center..

Desharnais will be gone.. This management team has shown they are not stupid. Defensively inept desharnais will not stay at the expense of plekanec and Eller
He proved in the playoffs he can play defense. How about we give the kid one more full year before writing him off?

As it stands

If he trades pleks now, galchenyuk plays center next year
If he trades pleks next off season, galchenyuk plays center in one year

If bergevin doesn't trade pleks, galchenyuk plays center in 3 years

How long do you really want to wait?

This has nothing to do with "understanding the sport of hockey", and everything to do with Hfboards fixation with Desharnais. People are *again* setting themselves up for self-created outrage if the "obvious move for people who understand hockey" doesn't happen.

He'll be 28 when the season starts, hardly a "kid".

And are we gonna give him another year of great o-zone starts, top PP time, exclusive access to Patches, and an open spot on the other side for whichever winger is hottest at the moment?

Also, his defensive play in the POs was nowhere near what it would need to be if we traded Pleks away...

The Jets just gave a similar player in Mathieu Perrault 3 years at $9 million, I doubt we'd get anything of decent value but I wouldn't say Desharnais is unmovable.

He's definitely moveable.

It's up to management to decide who makes this team better going forward (return included).
