Let’s no kid ourselves, there’s going to be a little t of ugly nights this season. And Henke can only do so much. As things stand, this is easily a bottle m five team. Henke’s paience has s going to be tested on a nightly basis.

What will his tossed nets/60 be this season? He's going to hate this season. Prepare for some meltdowns

"But omg Gorton and character wtf"

Everybody wants these guys, because these guys are actually hard workers. It's not just Gorton looking for a good locker roon

Gorton says the Rangers are looking for three things in players - speed, skill and character. His critics here like to skip the first two in order to hammer him with the third.

Do we have an initial expectation about Nylander availability given Tavares' signing?

They will want picks and elc types, since that would help w/big salaries presently +next yr for Matthews and Marner.

The dust has not settled.
EK remains to be resolved.

But getting a first idea of the cost of trade is worth review.

Are the Rangers a bottom five team? How much does Quinn plan on playing Lundqvist? AV played Lundqvist too much last season. The guy had a bad left knee and AV kept trotting him out there too much. Pavelec sucked so AV didn't have another option.

The Rangers will try to be as competitive as possible and say all of the right things but when the wheels all off the bus....the Rangers will sell off players at the deadline.

The Rangers were awful in October. They were great in November. Good in December but you could see signs their play was starting to drop off. Awful in January and February. They won enough games in March to end up the 8th worst team in the league.

They had a weird schedule. So many home games before Christmas. So many road games starting in January. They had one road game out of the Eastern time zone. Chicago.

It's more balanced this season except for the middle of March when they play 6 out of 7 on the road.

Yeah. I realize this is "hockey's future" board and all, and that a rebuild is needed. But the excitement of the fan base over at least several crappy seasons at best before we are even a playoff team is really strange to me. And that's if Gorton did a good job, which is still up in the air.

It’s almost as if the long time fans, here, that are happy have been waiting for a more complete rebuild versus the random half measures we’ve had since 1997 or so. So those of us waiting that long have largely suffered through multiple head fakes from management about the f***ing future. The idea that we can’t be happy with what appears to be a more complete attempt at rebuilding this franchise is absurd and I think you know where you can put that idea.

That $11-million in space doesn’t include the fact that the Leafs are in the process of trying to move Matt Martin’s contract, potentially I’m hearing to the New York Rangers. Replace him with a depth player in the million-dollar range and their cap space increases to around $12.5-million.

Mirtle: Adding John Tavares doesn't have to mean the Maple...

Boomer will be happy.

What are the Leafs giving the Rangers to take Martin?

Martin has a base salary of $750,000 this season. The Leafs paid the $1.5M signing bonus.

$750,000 base and $1M signing bonus next season.

$2.5M cap hit.

Does Dubas want to move Horton? Give the Leafs more flexibility. They won't have to deal with LTIR.

Drafting 1st overall has its benefits. Pittsburgh and a Washington got lucky and drafted generational talents, then surrounded those talents with core players.

Sather build a good team. He mortgaged years and years of future assets to try and stay competitive. And he did. However, we always fell short.

Good teams don’t win Championships. Great teams do. We didn’t have the assets to trade for great players. We didn’t have a pipeline. Our farm system was as dry as the Sahara.

It was time for change. Embrace the change. Welcome it with open arms and have some ****ing vision, Machinehead.

You know what? Gortons rebuild can collapse like a deck of cards, and ill still be happy. And that’s because we have a GM that’s trying something different than overspending for mercenaries every summer and mortgaging off the future to try and win now.

I have never been this excited about Rangers hockey in my life. Stop being so pessimistic. The future is too bright for that ****.

Well said.

The crap that MH and a few others are spewing is literally the reason this team didn’t go all in on a rebuild before. People paid lip service to this in the past and then whined when the team sucked.

It’s one or the other, guys. We can’t rebuild and not suck. Either get over it or admit that you’d rather watch mediocrity.

Martin would make sense based on the fact that they looked at Komarov and Reaves and are looking for guys with 2 year deals.

The funny thing is, this has already been in the works since the Brassard trade when Gorton started turning over older assets into younger players with upside. He got us a 1C, turned Stepan into Lias and ADA, and then added Chytil and all of our other picks from this year. We're already a solid year+ into it with a good stable of kids to build around once 2020 rolls around. I think we're gonna be pretty bad next year because I don't believe Chytil and Lias are ready for full-time minutes, and we don't have enough forward depth throughout our bottom-6.

Factor in development years for Lias, Rykov, Chytil, Howden, Hajek, and Kravtsov, and you're looking at integrating this kids onto a team with a core of Mika, Skjei, Buch, Hayes, and Kreider all in their primes. We'll have Shestyorkin over in two years as an immediate plug-and-play goalie that can take over for Hank once he's done. And, we still have a metric f*** ton of cap space because Gorton smartly got rid of any future salary contributions that would sandbag our money situations over the next 5 years.

We just need to be patient, and Gorton just needs to keeping being smart. Don't waste money or make moves for bad players, and keep the kids insulated so they can acclimate to the NHL game.

I think AV saw how horrible the team was and how his system deteriorated so he had to save face and try to win when he was on the hot seat

If they do get Martin there needs to be something pretty good coming along with. I'd look for something better than a 2nd round pick, it would have to be a 1st or one of the better prospects and I don't think that happens as some team out there will likely take him along with something lesser.
