What's a computer?
i think if bert bets on himself, stays healthy he could potentially be nearly a PPG and could command as much as 7x7 as a Ufa, i dont think the DRW will offer him anywhere near that, im guessing best red wings will offer will be about 5 years x 7ish aav, or perhaps more years for less aav

Keep in mind the list of UFAs next offseason that outscored Bert is really short, so either Stevie forks out the money to Larkin/Bert or else he has to go hard after Pastrnak/Bunting. The other guys are too old except MacK who's probably staying in Colorado, and this team doesn't have any prospects that can replace either player.

What message do you want to send to the team? Stevie's ego being more important than winning?

Players come and go, if you're in a playoff spot you don't sell. The team has plenty of cap space to find a replacement in free agency if Bert leaves.

Best scenarios is a hockey trade, a roster player plus a pick for Bert, kinda like the Mantha deal.
Not sure what you mean about Stevie's ego. Him trading Bertuzzi in the above scenario would be all about winning. That's the message. No ego involved. 'If you want to force my hand, I'm going to make the move that is healthiest for the team,' which in the hypothetical above is to trade Bertuzzi.

Just because you could easily replace Bert in free agency (which I do not believe is true), doesn't mean you choose not acquiring an asset over acquiring an asset. It's still bad asset management.

But I agree about a potential Bert trade being like the Mantha trade as best-case.

No more than 3 of those names will actually make it to free agency.

I think these 4 will:
- One of Horvat/Miller because VAN doesn't have enough cap space
- Pastrnak because he knows BOS needs a rebuild
- Tank because he wanted to be traded anyways, he's not happy with the way he was treated
- Bunting, cap space

Bergeron reties or takes a 1 yr contract, same with Pavelski.

But in any case, my point was that Bert/Larkin have a lot of leverage because of the lack of quality forwards in next years free agency, so you're actually strengthening my argument. Anyone who thinks either is going to sign for a big discount is dreaming,

Cap space ran out quickly for teams this off season. Just ask Kadri and Klingberg.
Both were overrating themselves, I said before free agency they weren't going to get what people here thought their ask was. Klinberg can't defend, and most people think Kadri is a one year wonder.

The top end players got their money, Uber-dough, Tkachuk, Johnny Hockey, Laine, Sergachev, Forsberg, Fiala, Hertl, etc. All of them close to or above $8M. That is what Larkin and Bert will be aiming for, anything below $8M is a "discount".

As Henkka mentioned though, they're both probably tired of playing for a cellar team, let's hope that keeps them both in Detroit.

Well, they added a 1st to send him to Montreal. I'd have put him on LTIR for that first for sure. I would not want Monahan as a roster player.
10 team NTC, who knows id the Wings were on that list or not.

Definitely worth a first if insurance covers his injury. He'll be LTIR for at least half the season, and in the press box or AHL for the other half.

Feel sorry for his injuries, but at least he's set for life financially.

Yeah, I'd have been hip to that.

FYI - Conditional 1st for the Monahan dump

It can be 2024, 2025, or 2026 CAL or FLA's pick depending on what happens. Really convoluted conditions:

I would still do it, but at that point you're picking a kid that's not gonna hit his prime until the next decade, lol.

To eat one year on a deal. How do we lose? Even if Monahan plays zero games it's a free 1st round pick. I wish we got him today.

It's only a problem if he wants to play because his salary is $6M. It's a really good deal if he plays zero games, but IIRC the team still has to pay 20% even with insurance. $1.2M for a 1st is a bargain.
