I’d gladly just take salary in a MAF deal. If he wants to be a starter, we aren’t the right spot. But we could be a third team in a deal for the right sweetener.

You’re an idiot. Why would you do that? Look at what we just paid For Ryan Murray? We paid a fifth round pick. Therefore Thornton is worth probably a seventh right now. A seventh round pick is virtually nothing. You trade for him and then you sign him for “8” years as opposed to the seven you’re suggesting. God. Some people just don’t understand how to manage assets.

Is joke. Why you heff to be mad

This may be the only UFA period where teams get good value. Wouldn’t mind seeing what’s out there moreso than other years.
next year could be even better.

montreal just handed out 7x5.5m for anderson. there are still some gm's out there, who haven't adjusted to the new reality.

So we'd have 9 million on the books for the next 2 years between Fleury and Schneider plus whatever our actual number one goalie, Blackwood, gets this year?

I can't physically vomit that much.

if Fleury comes with a significant asset or two, who cares? They have plenty of cap space and these are the types of moves that they should be making

Well both those guys (Markstrom & Khudobin) split starts this season.

Markstrom was a clear starter when healthy, and Khudobin, while a 1B, had a huge playoffs and will be looking to break the bank. If either were comfortable getting a 1B type deal they would move to the top of the list for us. I just think they are setting their sights higher than NJ's situation.

Probably someone who doesn't mind a 1B type deal .. Greiss or Talbot.
Thats the thing , Talbot wants starter money / term and role now .
I think he prices himself out of the market on what the Devils are looking for.
and for the poster who said Markstrom and Kuhdobin ... not happening . They will get way more $$ and term than we are looking for as well.

Main targets for UFA :
Tanev
Dadanov
Granlund
Craig Smith
Gudas
Toffolli ( too slow, product of his line mates in Van C)
Hoffman ( PP specialist , not great 5 on 5 . One trick pony but does that one trick very well)

Trades :
No idea who is all out there. Too much depends on who signs where.
Zadorov
MAF
???
???
Super long shots :
Gaudreau
Laine
Dunn
Schwartz

That and its only for two years. It wont cripple us at all if it doesn't work out . But I cannot see it not working out. Fleury has shown he is still a very good goalie.

Thats still less than C Price's contract alone.
Its only for two years. I don't think its as big of a deal as some of you are making it out to be.
Yes i would be pissed if it takes up so much room that we miss out on another Murray like deal though. But we need to fil a couple more holes and we are getting there. Need another top 4 D and a top winger and goalie.... ya we got a ways to go.

The thing about Fluery that could work to our benefit besides the assets it could bring. If he shows he has anything left, him at 1 year half retention could be actually attractive as opposed to something you pay to get rid of. Also not a bad option either way for Seattle, if hes good, they take him, if he's bad, we give them a pick to take him. That is less likely due to his age, and Seattle probably won't get as lucky as Vegas did in terms of being able to compete.

But regardless, if the price is right, it's a great pick up whether he helps us or the assets do.

I watched Forbort play with Calgary . There is a reason why calgary walked away.
Duclair same thing.
Galchenyuk is someone that interests me. Same as Granlund, Craig Smith . All have talent and are determined to show that they still have a lot to give at the NHL level.

I mean... It's not the superstar 1D we were all hoping for, but it would give use 3 lines of defense we could count on next year.. If we do this, I hope we offload Butcher, let Smith sink/swim and sign another "steady" D man.

Edit: I should have read what team the reunion was with......

My wishlist:

- Acquire Fleury (full salary) + Hague + our 2nd round pick for AHL fodder

- Sign Dadonov

- Sign Fast

I suppose you could also sign a guy like Koekkoek and run Murray/Butcher/Koekkoek down the left side, but in a perfect world I'd trade for someone better. And Killorn.
