Why the lack of respect for Fehervary?

If you really care, the last page or so goes into an analytic argument against Fehervary likely amounting to much.

In general I think people care too much about style and don’t care enough about substance. Fehervary is a good skater and hits. That doesn’t mean much to me if he’s a net drag on goal differential due to other deficiencies in his game.

It’s the same reason why I don’t care that Chicago fans think Dylan Strome is a bad skater or that he appears lazy defensively. He is a net positive on driving goal differential, his positives just don’t stand out as much to hockey fans.

Draft was pretty good and most of the moves were typical signature GMBM hole-filling at a reasonable price. We have to trust the plan wrt the LTIR management, for now, and hope they aren't going to botch prospect development.

But a lot of the positivity is based on potential upside. I've been critical of the Eeyoring going on but it still concerns me that Eller and Carlson haven't been moved and the defense has not really been upgraded. If we head into the playoffs next year with those two I fear we may get skulldragged in an elimination game yet again.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and in the playoffs recently it's been Eller and Carlson A drunken Chara might've been better than Carlson toward the end of the FLA series.

Take the plunge. Earn the "A".

So I’m piecing together some do the replies so far, and attempting to summarize accurately. Chychrun for:

A) Eller, McMichael, Fehervary, '25 2nd
B) Eller, Lapierre, Fehervary, '23 1st
Uh, no. These aren't close.

Fever is a young stud D with untapped upside himself, and you want to throw in 1st round C prospects and high picks?

I wouldn't accept these packages for JT Miller.

Seems foolish to want to move Fehervary, a young Dman that was thrown into the fire as JC74's partner and straight into difficult assignments and little shelter w/full minutes

The 1st half of the year he mostly looked great and fit in like a veteran instantly, he lost steam as the season wore on as most rookies aren't used to the 82 game grind

I find it hard to believe now that he's experienced a full 82 that he would somehow not learn, not train more in the offseason, and not prepare more for the long haul

Fully expecting him to be ready for 82+, establish himself as a Top-4 D, and be, at worst, a solid 2nd pair D for many years

something I always stand by:
<<<< Never trade away Top-4 D >>>>

Do we not remember the joke of a D core we had for years until Nisky/Orpik came here?

sure but in this scenario we would be returning an established top 4D, so I'm alright with it. But also okay just to go with Fehervary. Chychrun is a good asset because he has a great shot and we may not get to leverage that if Carlson is PP1 (unless the chychrun move opens up a Carlson move)

The odds that Fehervary supersedes Chychrun in talent or product is pretty low. Not to mention he has a cap hit of 4.6 for what three more seasons? Why would you not trade him for Chychrun? JC6 is only 24, he is someone you can build around, and helps the transition game.

I'd love to get Chychrun
NOT at the expense of a potentially great, high-end, long-term, young D like Fever, whom I expect to improve greatly and may turn out to be a true diamond in the rough

It's not like Fever looks like shit and has no potential nor is he an unknown prospect with unknown potential; he's shown plenty of potential, ability, great skating, surprising physicality, etc...

We've got extra fwds, we've got TVR/Gustafsson, we've got unproven prospects (Snively, Leason, Malenstyn et al...) to make a Chychrun deal happen

Chychrun is already a great, high-end, long-term, young D.

The other parts you listed likely have little to no value in a trade. Is Beck Malenstyn really going to be a centerpiece in a trade for a legit top pairing defenseman?

I was scoping the lineup projections (based on current state) in the thread and almost every one of them is missing Snively completely. He brings speed and youth, is very well liked, and was just signed to a two-year, one-way $950k deal. He's likely to be on the roster and Caps brass likes him in top 6. Focusing on forwards here:

OV-Kuzy-Brown
Snively-Strome-Oshie
Eller-CMM-Mantha (We played Eller at LW for a game or two and I think that will continue)
Sheary-Dowd-Hathaway (we know we have talent when we can play Sheary on 4th line - he is a perfect fit)

Mojo-Pilon-Leason
AJF-Protas
Malenstyn-Lapierre

LTIR: Wilson, Hags, Backstrom

Also worth noting that we haven't done much on Hershey signings. I think that is because we expect several folks who don't make Caps will be sent down and that could include Mojo, Pilon, AJF, and Malenstyn who are on one-way deals. I worry about Leason and AJF clearing waivers. Mojo, Pilon, and Malenstyn will clear. Protas and Lapierre are waiver exempt.

First of all Snively's NHL cap hit is $800k and not $950k. Second, Snively is best suited as a 3rd line player and not on the 2nd line.

Fever is 22 years old.
Full of potential.
Why on Earf give up on a potential great D-man before he's given time to grow and mature?
b/c he wasn't an All-Star his rookie year?
b/c he lost steam his 1st season of playing a full 82?

That's completely short-sighted and myopic

How is the only way to get Chychrun is by losing Fever? Is there no creativity

Good fwds grow on trees, anybody can name 150 good fwds
Good Dmen don't

I’m not advocating a Fever trade…..but you have to project who Arizona would want back and Fever makes sense.

It would be an immediate and large upgrade over Fever who does have upside for sure, but may never be as good.

I would prefer to hold onto Fever….but pay to play.

I'm not saying you give up Fehervary if you don't have to. I'm saying if you have to, you do it and don't look back. What are the odds Fehervary amounts to anything close to Chychrun?

Here's my OFFICIAL view:

I value Fever over every prospect we have and I think it's a mistake to lose him. Period.

I think by the end of this season he will have grown into the Top-4 D role and continue to be at least a solid 2nd pair D and maybe grow to be an all-around Top Pair D

I value Fever more than:
McMic
Snively
Protas
LaPierre
Axel Fjallby
Leason
Malenstyn
LuJo

I want the Caps to keep/develop Fever, Protas the most
the next tier for me is McMic, Snively, Lapierre, Axel and LuJo

Caps can’t trade Eller and McMichael together without a C coming back (or signing another one asap). They’d only have 3 C’s left on the big roster

You are correct... got my numbers wrong on Snively. But, I also know for sure that his tryout last year was to see if he could play second line. Now we have more talent this year so maybe that gets thrown out. Third line will be a lot more skilled then it was last year. If you have a fast play driving 3rd line, then fine. 4th line is checking.

Fever is 22 years old.
Full of potential.
Chychrun is 24 years old.
Full of potential.

It's like you don't realize that Chychrun is the already the player you want Fehervary to become, while still being very young and having potential to reach a ceiling that Fehervary won't achieve. And signed to a very affordable contract to boot.

I can't agree at all with those who value Hendrix over McMike.

He had 50 points in 40 games in the Q. That's honestly terrible for a d+1 first round pick in the Q. Sure you can argue he lost motivation because of being sent down but it doesn't really matter the reason. He did not improve his stock.

McMike had a decent rookie season. Not as much production as hoped but analytics suggests he was doing the right things.

So I haven't watched AZ games. Is Chychrun really that good? AZ had the second-worst goals against number last season. Honest question.
Secondary question who in their right mind actually willingly watched the Coyotes play last season unless they were playing the oilers or colorado.... I have to admit I cannot recall ever seeing this Chychrun character play. Though I bet he's probably a big fan of Chvrches..just sayin...
