how many years did rocky cry that the team was still in the red despite the fact that we all knew the team was minting money at the start of the golden years...but yeah it would be a pretty bad look
It was 1 time. And never sounded like a complaint at all. People love to bemoan things overdramaticlly. It was merely a fact and that was like in 2010. They were taking in money but never not spending at the level atop the league having extra accommodations and big support staffs.

But a lot of since the McD firing and all the echos of money saving are clear

Was he? I don’t watch Boston much but watch a good bit of Vegas games and he was so bad you wondered how this guy sticks in the NHL.
He played 2 games in Boston, and was OK in Providence, although never the #1 and never the best goalie on the team.

The Blackhawks have been printing money for the last decade. If the reason they keep the GM and coach is because they are cheap and don’t want want to pay their salaries and new guys salaries at the same time that’s pretty bad.
They took a pretty big financial hit on firing Q, no?

this lineup looks pretty realistic from zawaski so they have around 3.5m to use if Smith is on LTIR

no need for both pirri and highmore on roster, send one down, sub out one of delia or subban and that bumps their cap space up a bit more so they could conceivably sign a goalie but it's all contingent on zack smith

Doesn’t mean they are willing to do it again. I don’t think that is the reason they are still around, my opinion on Bowman is he has that big last name and he probably has a personal relationship with Rocky. His leash is extremely long, way too long now. Colliton is Bowman’s hand picked guy.

Have to be cap compliant at season's start, so we can't just not count Smith.

right they can be 10% over cap during offseason and then have as many as possible start in rockford then call them up after smith is on ltir? just thinking of how they could still add a goalie to the roster and what their cap situation looks like atm

Yeah that works. Could free up what 3 mil almost with 3 elc contracts? Or tell Strome to wait till the season starts, but that's unlikely.

I wonder if we ever entertained Markstrom btw. Still young prolly gets like 6 mil. Could make the money work. Its a clear no now, but wonder if they thought about it.

Didn't think of this, but yeah this actually is something that could happen and maybe should happen if there are LTIR dollars that can be spent right now. Agree in principle with Strome but do not submit the paperwork to the league until after Smith hits LTIR...Then they can bury a couple contracts in RFD to start the year, if needed. Same goes for Seabrook if he's done playing, but there are no indications that he is done. Shaw as well...

Without a Strome extension as of yet, CHI has 6.553M in cap space. That's with no one on LTIR.

EDIT: Forgot Mitchell. Make that 5.628M

anyone on this list make sense/seem realistic for a 1 year deal for a couple mil...just can't see them going into the season with what they got right now

It'd be super odd for Bowman to say they're going with their young guys and then sign a veteran. I'd expect CHI to move on from other vets before the season starts and we're going to tank. It's the right move. Two years late, but the right move.
