You don't trade a $7.5 million dollar 40-goal scorer, and a David Sweat in the playoffs, for Kevin Shattenkirk.

I honestly don't have enough first-hand knowledge about Stalberg to evaluate, but I'll say this:

If bringing in a guy who multiple times in his career has been right around 0.5ppg at $1.1MM means Tanner friggin' Glass at $1.45MM is being shipped out, sign me up.

“@HartnettHockey: #NYR signs 6-foot-3, 210- pound forward Viktor Stalberg to a one-year, $1.1 million deal. Solid depth addition.”

29 years old too, great size/speed.

No, what you do is trade guys when their value is at its highest for young guys who are ****ing studs. That's why you trade Nash. Nash's 40 goals don't mean **** in the playoffs. Unless you honestly think removing Nash will keep us from making the playoffs, you make that move every time it's offered. Shattenkirk is a ****ing stud who can solidify our blue line. Our forward group, while not amazing, is far less of an issue than our blue line.

But Chicago. Stalberg played on some xbox teams. That's my only hang-up here.

His fancy stats were alright last year playing 25 games for Nashville.

Putting him with the Rangers bottom six (while trading Tanner Glass for a conditional 7th) probably makes it a decent deal.

This is why we dumped Hagelin. It was solid asset management to dump Hagelin. You guys just watch, it'll be a blessing in disguise that we didn't pay $3.5 million AAV to keep Hagelin.
